Bring your student ID, you can get in a lot cheaper as a student. I intend to do it also, since I'm schedualed for a large job on Monday.

Friday-Sunday are Tree Academy workshops that cost extra, they are well worth it though. I've been to several through out the years. Here is the online schedule.

I don't have a student ID yet, I still haven't made much more progress with it, my VOC REHAB counselor here really sucks. I have to do everything myself, put it off till fall. My season has been very hectic, come home and pass out!
U gonna be there sunday? We are leaving today, going to Key Lime indoor water park, then six flags on Saturday, trade show on Sunday

I didnt go into downtown on Sunday, the news was saying it was pretty bad down there with flood and transformers walking around, blocking the streets, someone should say something to Optimus about his auto-bots just chilling in the city, don't get me wrong, I'm on their side, but they are a little big to be kickin back in the city! (they are filming Transformers 3 right now, downtown)

ISA Convention: First time is my last time.

(Transformers 3 location filming wrapped up each day in a few hours. The streets were open pretty quickly.)

I was very disappointed with the ISA convention. The presentations I sat through put me to sleep. I got far more out of reading the presenters' papers which came on the proceedings disk included in the bag they gave each attendee.

The trade show floor was OK, and I liked looking at the shiny, new stuff, huge and tiny, but I coudn't stand that nothing, or next to nothing, could be bought and carted off, right there. Instead I was repeatedly told, "Let me scan the bar code on your badge and we'll be in touch." Some would take my order, but I coudn't take the stuff with me. It had to be sent. Bah! I understand that most merchandise was there to show off a given line, but I didn't like it. If I had come back on the last day, I'm sure I could have bought some things, but one day was all I could take, even though I paid for two.

I know a lot of folks go to the conventions to get their CEU's. I had all of mine two weeks after re-upping, so I only went out of curiosity. The climbing competition was cool, so it wasn't a total wipe-out. I was born and raised in Chicago, so seeing old friends made the $$$ I spent for the trip worth it, and then some.

Did rain affect the competition? Looked like maybe it did somewhat.

I had big plans to make it, but the money wasn't there in any responsible fashion. I was bummed, so I landed a nice little commercial gig to cheer me up.

So far it's working...looking to grab my first 200t and some climbing gear. I've got bucket fever, akin to cabin fever, they tell me the only cure is to start climbing. There are no opportunities during the week, but the weekends are getting booked, and it's hard to make money renting spiderlifts.

Just got in from an estimate that landed me gigs to the east and west as well. Recent storm damage has everyone in town looking at their trees and considering the what ifs.

I still wish I could have made it, being so close, but I'm sort of satisfied to hear I didn't miss much. I can't believe you couldn't purchase anything on site. Now I'm real glad I didn't make it up.

Hey sunrise, you are going to have to beef up the mailbox if you got scanned much. You are going to get a ton of junkmail....forever...lol.

Once I caught on to the whole scanning thing, I stopped holding out my card holder for scanning. Yeah, I can just imagine if I had gone from booth to booth with that thing in hand. One pretty cool thing: Mayor Daley addressed the convention, and he was a great speaker, very animated. Also, the keynote speaker, this professor who did research on tree canopies in the tropics, was very interesting.

That makes me feel a little better as-well, we keep having storms here, every time I start to get caught up on storm work and start to go back to contract, it storms again, have clients who have been waiting since May! So there was no way I was gonna get back up there this week. Trade show thing is a bummer, I went up there with a little change in my pocket hoping to get some super deal on..........well, anything!

The trade show was the smallest I have ever seen. You can find more small gear dealers at WAA shows. Sign of the times I guess.

This was the first time i went to a an ISA show for tradeshow only. It was a bummer.

I did bump into Guy and a few other people I see only every year or two. That was the only thing to make it worth the $80 or so I spent to get down there.

Where was Guy? I see him around town, as he lives in Austin, but I saw none of my homeboys up in Chi. I thought Nevic would be up there, too, but I didn't see him at the ITCC.

We should have a annual ArboristSite get together. Have all the manufacturers come and bring their new toys, then we can play with them instead of looking at em'

Ill cook ribs, who's bringing the rolls

nah he's talking about guy leblanc, a tx arboguy.

SG man you went to the wrong sessions or something. Wednesday was the single best day of talks i have ever heard, even topping tuesday morning with the veteran tree talks. you left too soon!

sure the mayor is a showman; he and his PR needs also forced the 2 keynoters to cut 1/3 off their talks. ungood.

Sorry I missed the Wednesday presentations. Being away from home base for more than four nights just wasn't in the cards for me this time around. I will check them out on the disk they gave us. Thanks.
