was climbing in chigger territory this . can already feel thier searing effect. besides fingernail polish which doesnt work for me is there any relief.
to make it better the trees were covered in poison ivy so i can look forward to that joy in 2 days

From my own DESPERATE experience bleach or flea and tick dip for dogs works instantly--but you must apply it and then immediately shower. this is toxic but works

For future reference-Powdered pennyroyal works very well as a repellent. Chiggers -yuck. I have an uncle in Arkansas-the land of chicks and tiggers.;)

When I was stationed out in Ft Bragg NC we would go the the feild and the chiggers would be helatious. Believe it or not we would eat the match heads out of our MRE's and the sulphur would get in you system and keep the chiggers away. Sounds kinda corny but it worked. If you dont feel like eatin match heads, get your self a bottle of "Chig-A-Way" Its sulphur based and doesnt work with Mosquitos or ticks, but it keep those little No-see-ums away. Put it on the tops of your boots and around your belt line. for some reason thats where those little turds like to plant.

I did some googling last year (after a bad case of the critters) and found that site. I thought it was pretty good and posted it here then also.

I'd had this horrible vision of the little snits under my skin chomping away. I'd always used the fingernail polish also....and I thought it gave some relief. Somehow knowing it's just a reaction to something that's not crawling around really helped.

I use 'clear' caladryl (calamine with the active ingredient in Benadryl) and OTC hydrocortisone cream....which I'm currently using for posion ivy. :(

Usually about a book of matches a day. Then we would kick back at the pool on post and let the sun and clorine dry the bites out while we were checking out the generals daughters.

Naw, Its just sulphur. Its a water based mineral, most of it gets passed out through your urine. Its kinda like when you load up on your vitimins your pee is green, and come to think of it your poop is to. LOL

thanks for the advice. i will look for "chig-a-way" that sounds promising. eating matches does not.
i did find some antihistamine cream that took the itch out quick.
i take it by most of the responses that chiggers arent too far out of the south.

I've got a bite on each ankle here in west central Indiana and it seems I recall them being problematic up in Wisconsin.
