Had somebody install my new woodstove in the middle of the summer. I’m in the process right now I’m doing my first burn to test everything out Cook all the smells off of the new paint.

Never noticed it until now and don’t know if it’s normal but at the roof I can wiggle the chimney a bit. So when I wiggle it it moves about a quarter inch total in all directions if you’re measuring The movement between the rain guard in the collar around the pipe. To further explain, if you wiggle it then you get movement between the rain guard that’s nailed to the roof and the collar on the chimney it goes down over it. There is a gap between the two which I know has normal.

Just did not know if it’s acceptable to have movement in the chimney pipe.

My 6” Metalbestos double wall does the same thing, from what I’ve been told this is the way they’re supposed to be.

This type flue that’s made up of multiple sections are supposed sit on a base and be free floating with a weather cuff at the roof.

This is what I recently found out after doing some research. It is supposed to be that way to allow slight movement between everything.

I also called my installer. He said it is not necessary but if you would like you can add the roof supports.

I will probiotics do that

Possibly a daft question but is there movement when the stove flue is at working temperature? or does expansion take up the slack ?

There is no movement at all of stove pipe from the stove all the way up to the box in the attic. Box itself is also soundly secure.

I’m going to install a roof support bracket when I get time.
