A guy on my crew put his phone through our chipper yesterday. The chipper definitely won ;-)

Last month another crew we worked with put an MS260 through their chipper. The chipper needed new blades but there was literally nothing left of the saw.

Heard a story from a guy on our crew that he accidentally fed the climbers rope into the chipper while feeding a branch in, and the climber was up the tree at the time (!). Luckily he noticed and hit the brake otherwise it could have ended badly....

Ever put anything other than wood through your chipper, accidental or otherwise?

Shaun

had a silky gomtaro, scabard and biner go through one. One of my guys started the chipper up with the week old backpack blower in the hopper facing the wrong way, at least being a 6 inch it didnt have the appetite to eat all of it.

At least on person on this site had chipped a saw.

golf balls dropped down the shute at the right chipper RPM are a riot, but be sure you have a clear field of fire

Ratchet,5/8 socket,4"extension,and a adjustable wrench. Chipper won, but had to flip the knives. Had fragments of the tools stick into the wood on the front of my dump trailer 15' away from the chute!

Ground guy stared up the chipper without taking the gas jugs out of it first, a chuck & duck so the 2.5 gal jug didn't pass through, but one corner was chewed away and enough gas went through it into the dump truck that one spark would have made both machines immolate themselves impressively I'm sure.

Later on he cut a brand new $300 lowering rope, taking about 60' out of it. That was his last day working for me.

i've seen a lowering rope attached to a climber fed into the chipper. Climber was on spikes tied in from above and had a flipline. It all happened real quick but the rope shot up in the air, got tight and shot back out, mike (climber) barely noticed till he felt it shoot back. Big sycamore tree tight DZ and close access, older blue streak rope blended right in. Other than that i seen a guy 'regularly' chip his empty bar oil jugs.
Broken rakes that make ya mad.
A bucket full of apples is always fun!

we flipped the bed knife on a vermeer bc1500 2 summers ago but forgot to torque it down. It came loose and the knives caught it, shredding the knifes into pieces making the worst sound ive ever heard a chipper make. One time a guy on a crew I was working with put a splitting maul through, trying to use to push branchs through. That was on a vermeer 1000xl, both knifes were screwed and the drum needed to be replaced (5 or $6000 i think).

Steel rake, went through like butter. No damage to the knives or anything else for that matter...

The steel hook on the winch. Ouch, mostly hurt my wallet. An aluminum scoop shovel. 2 cats, several squirls, and a raccoon that was in a hollow silver that we bobcat-ed into a demoed BC2000. That made a mess on the tailgate. Just glad it didnt clog the chute.

Haha reminds me of a time I was chipping with a couple other guys and we found a blue plastic "mystery bag". Don't know why we decided to chip it but we did and it turned out to be a bad idea. No damage to anything but the air around the chipper wasn't very fresh for a long time

Really, who ####s in a bag and leaves it lying around?

13 years ago i was chipping a bunch of old xmas trees into a pile at a housing project, we found a bunch of large stuffed animals in the pile, the stuffing explodes when it hits the disk (think it was a 250xp at the time) not sure what they did with the chips with all that white stuff in it

My nemesis had his brother start up his Vermeer 1800, they had put ALL their gear in the hopper and shut the door, then little bro fired it up, saws, saddles, ropes!! It couldn't have happened to a better guy! Same guy stuck his fingers in a snow blower, now they are missing!
