no way to lock the drum??? how can that be, here is a hint, engage the clutch;) (with the engine off)

we def go much longer then 10 hours on a side before changing we go a long time probably longer then we should I know the blades in the machine I'm running right now have not been changed in several weeks, they still have a little sharpness to them and there isn't really any difference in chip rate and we dont really care about chip quality. we dont max out our machines chipping though so its not like we are trying to chip 15" logs day after day

Ok it was a bit of a mistake on my part! I should of said check them every 10 hrs! Sorry guys! Change em when necessary.

I have ordered directly from Simonds and the price was about 50% less than what the Bandit dealer who sold me the chipper (former Bandit dealer) charged.

I don't sharpen , I replace them something about someone running them through a bench grinder putting all kinds of heat on the ends just sounds to me like trouble waiting to happen , I also never have to adjust the bed knife and its still set in thje same exact spot it was 10. Years ago , cost me 120.00 for a set and I do them six times a year on average ! Again maybe 700 and some change is crazy to some people but I've seen sharpened bladeds with blue spots on them that means they got real hot at some point and that scares me

Are they close to us? I pay 55 a knife....

Shipped from Granby, Quebec.
Last time I ordered knives from them was in 2009; 7&1/4" X 4"X 1/2" cost $33.95
Will PM you their contact info if wanted.

A buddy works at a large particleboard factory which has a very nice $50,000 + knife grinder for sharpening their chipper blades. It can be dialed in to remove less than 1/1000th of an inch of metal per pass, and it is all done automatically.
Once a year or so he will ask me if I need some blades sharpened.....
btw. - they have tried Zenith Cutter blades. Too soft - got dull too quickly.

really ten hours? I am doing at least triple that. I don't really keep track of the hours, I just change them once the mulch is poor quality. If you are very picky about not putting rocks through it they last much longer.

I actually just did the blades in both my chippers today.... what a pain in the ass. On my morbark 2400 there isn't even any way to lock the drum that I can see. The chipper has been rebuilt and I figure there is something missing.... gotta weld something up I guess.

I got my last set of blades from wesspur, I bought the american made ones, they have lasted a good while. Wesspur is probably a long way to ship for you though.

Also if any of you need your blades sharpened and don't have anything local my salesman's father owns Filegar Cutting Technology (www.filegar.com) in Jamestown NY. I have been shipping my blades to him and it is a quick turnaround.

You can engage the clutch to hold the drum when changing your knives. There is uaually a drum lock with every chipper sold. It's a cold rolled steel pin that will hold the drum in place. If I'm not mistaking, there should be a decal that says drum lock.

Global Equipment Exporters offers Knife Source knives and we carry many different makes and models. Just visit New and Used Heavy Equipment For Sale and Export: Construction Equipment, Trucks, Heavy Machinery at Global Equipment Exporters and view the chipper knives available.

Hope this helps!

I haven't ever had good luck with finding a guy that can do it right and zenith blades dull fast but for what I pay for a set I just chalk it up to running that machine . I get about 3.5/4 weeks from a set barring I am not chipping petrified wood .

I just got a set of zenith I figured for the price what the hell. See what happens, If they last decently long I'll run them. Bandit gives us 15% of on parts so I got them for like 150$ delivered. Any guys going to the Paul Bunyan show stop by we ave a booth there.

Zenith Knives

I have been running Zenith knives in my Bandits since 2002. I was thrilled when Bandit partnered with Zenith and made the Zenith brand available to all Bandit dealers. I have tried other brands but Zenith is the only company I keep returning too. Lets be honest, any knife will wear and chip if you are not observant of the material your are putting into your machine. I have been getting two to three sharpenings out of my knives and good longevity. Not to mention Bandit would not partner with a junk brand to put in there machines and sell as a wear item.:)

If I have a lousy experience in a restaurant or hotel, I don't go back, cause there are other choices available.
Tried Zenith, am happier with Simonds; end of story for me.

My Toyota Tundra that I purchased new came with Dunlop tires. They sucked. Completely wore out by the time they hit 60,000km. (35,000 miles).
So why whould Toyota partner with a junk brand to put in their vehicles and sell as a "wear item"? I think the answer is obvious, or it better be. Comes down to $$$
Curious if you are affiliated commercially with either Bandit or Zenith?
