Does anyone know what kind clutch is in a mid 90's asplund chuck and duck? The part store keeps giving me the wrong one. The guts on the clutch plate aren't matching up.

The one on the left is the new one it is too small. The plate is the same size but the guts aren't. The springs aren't right and the shaft that goes to the pulleys will not fit into the clutch plate. The springs on the old one is smaller and actually ride against the pulley shaft so there has to be room for this.

Yes its a ford 300 industrial engine, I believe a straight six 6.4 liter. Yes all the springs blew out of it. The flywheel doesn't look that bad to me.

If the flywheel is warped (or whatever) it can cause the clutch to chatter, which can cause the springs to blow apart. The springs absorb the vibration. I had this happen on my one ton anyway.

I blew the springs out myself, I changed the blades the other day and never disengaged the clutch. I didn't start it for a few days and forgot to disengage it before I started it. My stupid mistake:dizzy:

I think the torque from it be started while engaged just tore everything apart. Lesson learned

Or you could just buy something newer and sell that old thing to some Mexican start-ups or something.

Thats really what I want to do. I rented a bc1000xl the other day it gave me a boner. It's like going from a volkswagon to a bmx. I priced a new bc1000xl 27000 big ones. If I had full time work I'd probably go for it. Still think the price should come down to 25000 though.

Instead of a car parts house maybe try an equipment dealer. Modern Equipment is in norristown 1800-445-4381

I 'll give that a try I was hoping to have it all together by tonight so I could start working again Monday... Oh well!

I bought a 250 with quad rollers, winch, hyd. chute, supersized infeed and JD 125 turbo with 1500 hrs. on it for 18k.

I'm not afraid of used equipment, you get more bang for your buck (of course you have to know what you're looking at).

I'm fine with buying used just don't wan't a beat up nickel and dimer that I have to throw a clutch or new drum bearings in in less than a year. Theres a guy in hershey pa, a tree guy that buys them and fixes them for a profit. He has a bc1000xl on craigslist with less than 200 hrs on it so he says. heres the link: http://harrisburg.craigslist.org/grd/17537824.html
