The dan must have a better labor pool over his way than I've got here. lol.

Around here if it can be screwed up they'll find a way... preemptive hand holding is the best hope I've got out there.

nobody will ever treat your equipment as good as you, they don't own it. they think bosses are made of money.i know i use to think that way.

That's what happened to ours. The clutch, we knew, was on it's way out and my partner tried to engage it with a piece of wood jammed; burned the clutch right out of it and probably what caused our pressure plates to crack. We got it running for the rest of the week with just the clutch till new pressure plates showed up Friday. Be putting them in this week hopefully.

had that happen .

Mine's got a slit so you can see if the belts are turning. I told my partner to simply watch that slit to make sure it's moving. If you don't have one there I'd cut one. That would probably be the best way to idiot proof your machine.

heres one to remember best way to idiot proof a machine is to take the key out when you arent there.

Well, you know me... " I work alone" Of course this isn't really the case at all times but I really don't let the cattle roam.
Hell that dude I was talking about who always starts his C and D with the clutch handle engaged? Well I was chipping and got done so I shut it down, pulled the handle of of gear and that was that. He said he noticed some noise coming from in there after the fact and I said I let the handle down. See? Nobody is safe, even me. No harm done on that one , he pushed the handle back up and the noise ( throw out bearing) stopped. Funny how he used the machine for a week without me there with the handle ( clutch) not engaged.
I really knew I should have not shut his chipper down but he was a few houses up and the thing was just screaming at me.
I just got back from the store buying more of that tree cable rope. I ran into the man who said to never let a crew go out without you being there. I told him that was a very good rule to follow and I will never forget it either.
He told me to forget any kind of tree cabling as it was a great liabliity. I said I have to get the people to sign off on it but he is right. He asked me how business was, I said " business sucks, but tree work is a hoot and I am busy... as always."
He said he was a little slow and at age 51 he still went to each job he bid on but didn't work as hard as he used to. I told him I didn't know people lived that long and bought the 50 feet of Nerex dynamic tree support so I could pacify my client on what should be a big dollar 120 foot tall codom poplar removal aimed right at the kids bedroom then stopped at the liquor store for vodka and olives.

I once told a kid to dig out 6 inches of soil in a spefic area to level the area. I asked him if he was clear, I said " are you sure?" I came back , he was in a hole that went straight down 6 feet. I don't know how he was able to dig that kind of hole as it was just wide enough for him to stand in. I pulled him out and cursed wildly.
But that is an old story though true as Hell. Poor kid had dug himself down quite a bit, I could have kicked the dirt over top of him and called it quits for the day but what about NC's clutch? Are we done yet? I hope that part magically has found its way into your hands. Seriously. Pull the motor for the clutch? Man, see? If you had just asked The Dan he would have told you that if you have the tools to pull the motor then you have the tools to pull the pulley. No big deal, what don't kill ya makes you stronger. Anyone for a swift kick in the nuts? Maybe just another martini? Not like i haven't been there before so you can count on me for a time or two.

And I hope Nc got his clutch for 160. The way I heard was Aspy wasn't selling cheap and a monopoly was installed. If he gets that thing screaming again for that kind of money then God bless the SOB and tell him that Vermeer got a whole lot more that 184. Next time I se that Aspy contract mocanic I will be sure to get his number for future refrence.

I did get the clutch dano and it's in, it's 7;30 and all i have to do is hook up the electrics put the belts back on and tight everything up. Ya know I did have to pulled the engine btw. The housing that incases the clutch is mounted to the frame it is the only thing holding up that side of the engine. I could hve strapped that side and braced it with a 5:1 hooked to the eye beam in my garage too. Just seemed easier to get to with the engine pulled. Maybe I did dig a 6 foot hole instead of a 6 inch hole but its raining and I cant do tree work anyways so be it. I'm definatly no mechanic by far, i could have done a better job with the clutch. I broke off one of the bolts that hold the clutch to the flywheel from over tightening it. Oh well! as long as it last for a year then i will be ready for a new chipper.

that vermeer got sold today, it didn't last long. I think it was a steal for who ever bought it $13,900. the thing looked brand new he had a carlton too, thats gone with it. When you see a good deal you just have to jump on it right then and there. I couldn't get the cash around fast enough or I would have bought it. Pissed me me off when he called me to rell me both chippers were gone. Won't see a deal like that for a long time.

everything is pretty much back together though theres a problem. the clutch is not fully engaging which i assume needs just to be adjusted. The other thing is now the clutch lever engages the clutch the opposite way then it did before. i put it bck together the i found it im a little confused.

i figured it out the arm that rests on the throwoff bearing wasn't in place all the way, now everything is working as it should. Yeppy skippy! Time to make some money
