First post here and looking for experienced advise on chipper upgrade

Been running a Vermeer BC625 for the past 7 yrs and it's served its purpose but time to move up. Had my share with lack of customer support with the company and could care less if I ever had to deal with them again.

A few things I'm looking for that I've enjoyed with the 6" is its light weight behind 1ton dodge cummins while loaded. Economical to operate and straightforward to repair. Other than paint issues and small throat its been a great dependable machine

Worked enough with 12" and larger bandits and vermeers to realize the challenges in troubleshooting electronic board malfunctions and would love to purchase something mechanical if possible.

Key points to consider for my situation is 10"-12" capabilities, overall weight is an issue, economical to operate and maintain, good service and parts availability, prefer mechanical over electronic boards. Prefer diesel over gas.

Thanks in advance

I have an altec DC1217 w/cat diesel. I'm happy with it. Its a bit heavy, but we pull it with an international chip truck with a dt466 mostly. Its a bit heavy behind my 1ton but that has a gas engine. You may consider something like a brush bandit 150 or 200, 12", diesel, disc, brakes. They are good machines, and they are a bit lighter/smaller.

I have a 2006 200xp with an 86 hp cat diesel and I love it perfect chip quality and very fuel efficient. I have chipped wood and brush and it just keeps going doesnt really slow down much

It isnt that heavy either I tow it behind a 1996 GMC top kick with a 454 in it and a 5 speed and it tows it fine. I notice a little bit of drag when fully loaded but that is expected

I originally wanted a morbark 2070 for some of the same reasons you mentioned... weight, initial investment, production capabilities. I settled for a 2060 (similar to your vermeer) and ran it for about 5 years and it served me well. Had I gotten what I originally wanted I think I would still have it and not upgraded to a 13" chipper. I think the 9 / 10 inch family of chippers are doable in the commercial world where as the 6 inch chippers just aren't there unless you have a really unique niche / market. If you can find a 2070xl at a fair price I would take a serious look at it...
