It does make sense. With the whipper you'll probably pull back a bloody stump, but if those rollers catch ya, ya better think/react quick!
I've always thought a good way to teach/show/scare a new groundie how to respect/operate/rescue theirself from a chipper would be to tie a rope around their waist, and throw the other end into the rollers. Let em have 10 feet or so to work with. The trainer would be at the roller feed controls, and if the trainee failed to stop it, then the trainer would. And then they would have failed the test, but still be alive.
But, I'm a hardass. And I don't think OSHA would approve of my training methods.
