Is this the kinda file im looking for? I figured since i mastered round filing i should try square filing.

I think i need to buy a loop of chisel chain too.

I hit a nail first thing thismorning. made me feel all warm and loved.

no that is not a square file
baileys sell them so find a book and you will see what they look like

well son of a bi......... what kinda file did i get then, this is the 3 sided file i ordered from baileys...

maybe it is but my 3 sided files have alot more side to them almost more like a 6 sided file
it maybe the picture here but i donot see much of a sode on that file , maybe i am blind in one eye and cannot see out of the other

well im def in one ear and cant hear with the other so were in the same boat...

Ill see if i cant get some others

from where i see that file , i cannot see how you can get your top plate angle and side plate angle at the same time but then you got to remember up here in the great white north we just got hydro and soon will have inside plumbing yea ha

That's a machinist's file for clearing grooves on stiles when turning material on a lathe or such. If you filed your chain with it the top plate would get an edge but noting else, the chain would only spit fine dust.

baileys sent me a stihl product.

im gonna order some from somewhere else.

JimL, Bailey's order #'s 15015, 15020, 15025 are chisel files. Get one of each and see which one works best for you. The file you have in the pictures is not a chisel file. When you master square filing lets us know! Dennis

one thing ive noticed is my square filed chain holds edge pretty good contrary to what id heard.. also it takes a tickle from an round file ,,and mine is as good as ever.. i just stopped cuttin the other day ,,on an 40 inch stick.
so i could watch my sons eyes ,get big as door knobs..since he thinks my chainsaw fetish is mularky ,,it gave me a winning moment..:) :)

chisel files

Dennis C:

Is the Baileys # 15025 the goofy file. It is supposedly not available in canada. I have been using the 15015 and 20 listed in the Can. catalogue but would like to try the "Goofy" for the he!! of it. How does it differ?

Tony Marks;
Tony you are just going to have to get yourself some square files and learn to do it. You are hooked now! At the same time, you will need a 3X mag. headband viewer so you can see the corners without looking thru the fur. I still have difficulty getting the side plate angle 100% uniform but as long as the tooth length is the same it will outcut any roud filed.

Crofter, No, the item #15025 is the Oberg 150 double ender. The Bailey's catalog I have doesn't show the goofy any more, but the goofy file looks just like the #15010 raker file. The 6" raker file has smooth sides, the goofy file has rounded grooved sides for cutting metal. The pictures Marky posted is the 3-corner chisel file. That is my least favorite chisel file. It might be hard to find the goofy's and the 150's anywhere pretty soon! I hear they have stopped making them. Dennis

My local guy gets me thoose goofy files for 39.95 a box. For a putz like myself they are pretty sraight forward to use. Just remember I am the world champ hack sawyer. Dennis don't forget to turn the swing arm handle around ASAP I will need it soon.

Marky, milling that swing arm handle is going a little slow right now, working on one leg is tuff!, but I'll get it done soon. Plus I've added extra thread length to the pork shaft, so that should really help you with your tooth adjustment. I'll make sure I package it up good, so the handle doesn't fall out of the box and get lost like last time. Dennis

Hey Gypo, send me my bar, and how did it get past customs into Canada. I think your giving me the Canadian shuffle! Throw one of those new 088's in with it and send it to me pronto! Your good friend Dennis
