hanging out with the fellas at the shop after the day is done when the boss shows not quite looking like saint nick but bearing gifts nonetheless.

in my hand he puts a brand new stihl 200t with a 16in bar!

a pleasant surprise yes but i am a husky guy and was not sure how to feel about running a stihl.

anyway she came up with me today and needless to say there is a reason it is considered the cadillac of climbers.

heres my question for you. is it about 10 or so tanks before she is considered "broken in"?

AND more importantly, when she is broken in, other than the arrestor and "poking" a couple more holes in the muffler, what can i do to make this climber the most feared saw in the valley.

and i am talking beefy fellas.

thanks.

oldirty,

Congrats, you now own the icon of climbing saws!

I live not too far from Walkers saw shop, a renowned West coast saw modding shop, 2-stroke geniuses they are, and a Husky dealership. They will port and pipe any saw for specific use from reliable, durable increase in power for logging to the unlimited class competition chainsaws.

They are so good, that they have quite a sideline going building custom expansion chambers for Motocrossers, 125cc shifterkarts, small marine racing engines, etc.

Knowing this, I brought my new 200t in, pocketful of cash at the ready, to let the experts unleash it's untapped power. Conversation went like this:

Me: "Guy I work with let me run his Walkerized 372xp a while back, awesome saw."

Walker: "Thanks. Not our first day on the job. What can I do you for?"

Me: "I know you're a Husky shop, but I've got a Stihl 200t to have you massage, so...what and how much?"

Walker: "First, ditch the spark screen.."

Me: "Done."

Walker: "...and rich it up a bit, they're shipped lean..."

Me: "Done. Then I set the idle down a bit so the clutch won't snatch."

Walker: "Good. You're there. That's all it needs. Look there's work we do on the Husky climbing saws, but most guys have gone to the Stihl. We used to open up every tenth one looking for porting, but Stihl's done all the work. It's a racing engine right from the factory, not worth messing with."

Me: "I've seen where guys will file open the muffler exit or drill an additional hole next to it..."

Walker: "Louder, less power."

Me: "Not what I want."

Walker: "Not what you want."

You can take it from there oldirty, but that's what I learned from my ;local chainsaw experts.

Please tell me you live around me...I love it when my competitors run Stihl. While they are in the shop bragging about their saws, I'm on the job.

I wouldnt do any more than what redlineit stated. You cant beat a 200t. I would however run a 14 inch bar on it. For one a longer bar gets in the way and hangs up, and two the longer the bar the more friction caused by the chain traveling along the bar which will reduce your torque. As far as a loud saw, those things are annoying. I am deaf enough as it is. Congrats on the new saw.

much thanks fellas.

redline thanks for filling me in on the conversation.

tao i was thinking 16 was abit much but it came with the saw and your right anyway , i had it in a red oak today and she kept grabbing my ropes.

gave her a run for her money today thats for sure.

hey ASD, will the 088 pull a 14 inch bar? cause i will climb with that thing!

lol

i still have a rather strong desire to head west my friend. and methinks the only reason i do is to work some of those trees.

it gets cold here in the winter. lol

do you have a reason i should rethink my locale?

Where is the wrap handle? Would work good here, and where is the second point of attachement?

the second point of attachement is off his right hip to the cypress.
we have both 1/2 and full wraps and 1/2 half wraps are lighter in the tree:greenchainsaw:

Couldn't see that, did you understand what I am saying about how he would be better off with a wrap handle in this case? Lighter in the tree, a few ounces, ok.

hard to argue a reason like that.

with that many $'s being thrown around we might have to start having a more discreet conversation. lol

are you flirting with me ASD?
