have you seen what they do to Fruitless Mullberries in the Inland Empire? Every few years, they hack them back to stumps, then let them grow for a while.

Some people have them hacked every fall so they don't have to rake leaves! :dizzy:

Poor mulberries seem to be the object of more hacking than usual. It's uncommon that I get a call to prune one that HASN'T previously been topped.

Even yesterday, I went on an estimate to reduce the height of a huge liquidambar by 50%. I explained to the homeowners how destructive it would be but they still wanted it radically topped. :confused:

sweetgumns are touigh. re topping vs reduction, it's all in the cuts, timing, etc.
