Hi gang, I need some advice. I'm new to the industry and I am currently looking into booking some introductory courses with an outfit called Arbormaster. They are offering level 1 climbing, felling and rigging. Any opinions about this lot and are the courses a step in the right direction?
Best wishes.
Roger. :alien:

Climbing training.

That's what I am trying to do at the moment, but many companies around here have advised me that they are having problems finding climbers and they have all mentioned that if I went down this road they would take me on and train me with the ground stuff also sooner. Is this a common trend in Texas? lack of climbers.

You should definitely start on the ground, and WATCH the climbers who your grounding for. To be complete arborist you have to understand the whole job, not just the physical climb.
There is a LOT to learn.

Nothing beats experience, but I must tell you Arbormaster Training was some of the best money I've spent career wise. I started out under an old school hack and after picking up my first sherrill catalouge I knew there was more out there. If you don't have any one to really learn from it is a good way to go. Months later you remeber the things you learned there and apply them. Now I've showed things to seasoned climbers. I did felling, climing 1 and 2 and areal rescue, just waiting for a rigging modual to come my way. Do it!

Hey medicrogeruk, just like to welcome you to AS.com :) . This is a great forum with a lot of good people who are willing to help you out in any way they can! A number of our members have taken the Arbor-Master program and were not disappointed. Seeking information is a good thing! With each years passing, your experience level will increase along with your confidence, so never stop learning. Safety first and always eh! Get yourself set up with personal protection equipment,(PPE). It's a requirement with the Arbor-Master programs, and yes is a step in the right direction! ;) . There is a lot of good information out there and a lot of folks with the experience here in this forum. Check out our sponsors and get there catalogs etc. Also check out the "search functon" at the top of your monitor...many questions have been asked and answered before but don't let that stop you from asking again or Questioning answers!!! No such thing as a dumb question you know, your among friends so post often and ask questions. Good luck. HC

I am with Trignog. I went to ArborMaster and had level 1 climbing, level 1 felling level 1 and 2 rigging. I can't wait to go back to level 2 climbing coming up in june in NC. I learned alot of little life saving things like the proper use of biners, when to retirer something, how to fell a tree exactly were you want it, the many uses of a trowline, etc. After the class I would spent the money twice over. If I could afford it now I would send my main ground guy. I don't know anything about the other training organiztions but I will spend money with ArborMaster again. Oh another good thing is you can try alot of equipment out before you buy it. see what feels write for you and what may be better than what you are using. Hope this helps.
