I'm pretty sure I need to change the clutch springs in my 254 (chain won't stop turning).
I've never done it before but I've got all kinds of spare parts for it (including clutch and springs etc..).
How do I do it or should I bring to the shop ?

With loose springs, you'll usually hearing a chattering at idle. I've mistaken it for piston slap. You might have an out of adjustment carb or airleak.

Changing the springs is easy enough. You'll probably need to remove the clutch pack and then separate the shoes and old springs from the spider. I assemble the shoes and springs, and then work the whole bit onto the spider. A screwdriver helps. If you have Kung-fu grip you might be able to do it by hand.

This procedure will obviously vary by saw. I can change them on my 045s without unscrewing the clutch or removing the drum.

You prolly got one broke spring.
Git a plyers, needle nose, and take it out. Then put the new one in. When you put the chain on, make sure the pointy part is aiming the right way, elsewise, she'll cut real slow.
Most times, ya don't even haffta take the clutch off, just the chain cover.
