balloon knot: A lifeline knot that, while possibly bomb-proof, is so simple and minimal that it appears that there's "nothing but air" holding you up.

knot examples:

-anchor hitch
-clove hitch

usage examples:

1. "Hey man, you can stand at the base of YOUR tree all day long playing with your balloon knot, but I'm headed up mine on my double fisherman's loop."

2. "Dude, we're not paying you to stand there and stare at Frank's balloon know all day long, get to work!"

Oh yes I am THAT funny. Thank you.

Hey Plastroll!

Are you really so clueless that you don't know this kind of stuff doesn't belong in the Commercial Tree Care and Climbing forum?

Grrrrrrrr a little humor in here is good now and then. Nothing was so bad about his post to me.

:bringit::angrysoapbox::chatter::dunno:

Unless you think real hard about the origins of the expression. I suspect some funny boys came up with the term, while thinking about some of their odd habits and perhaps canine anatomy.

Myself, I never heard of it. Plasmech, where DID you learn that term?

Question: hey do you know why POOP (not using any unacceptable lanuage) is tapered on the ends.

Response: no why?

Answer: its so your Balloon Knot doesnt slam shut.

After I am done laughing, I am going to come up with some clever ways to slip that in to daily lingo. Thanks Plas, had a real balloon knot of a day cutting in the rain.

I'll have you know that I had to turn off my obscenity filters to go to that website!

lol yeah I may have to retract my statement about this thread not being over board for the Comm Tree Care forum. Its teetering on the edge. Before you know it some Balloon Knot is going to come in here and push it right over to the other side.
