I have a cs8000 and a 590 timber wolf. My 8000 has a stock 27 " bar and chain and my 590 has a cheap Oregon bar and chain(just because I was in the middle of a. Job. But I have a professional 20 stihl chain..I think it's 72 .. What's the difference? Will both work? I am eventually wanting to run a good 72 dl 20 inch bar on both. Any advice

2 drive links on the same bar and same #of teeth drive sprocket is too much difference for me.

Your posts are kind of confusing. There are laminated bars with sprocket noses, solid bars with replacable noses, hard nose bars both laminated and solid and different radius noses all with the same called length. Then there are different bar manufacturers. Maybe that is an answer to what I think you are asking why some 20=70 and some 20=72.

Hang the drive sprocket, or one with the same number of teeth on a hook or nail, put the chain on it, put the bar inside the chain, see if it looks like a good fit. If it looks right chances are the adjuster will move to the correct spot and the oil hole will get oil.

Yes... I was looking at eBay at replacements 20" echo bars and it said 70DL. And I started thinking ... I run 70 and 72s with no problems that I know of.. And wondered if I'm running wrong combination. What's the difference?

Not sure of your question, but here is an e-bay auction of the 70 link bar.

What 72 link bar are you talking about? I am not much on newer Echos, but that doesn't look like the Echo mounts that I am familiar with.

I believe the "new" Echo mounts are a Z095, they are indeed kind of an oddball, and all about capturing a market. I also have a feeling that a standard K095 would work just fine.

Why they got away from the normal D176 is beyond me.

Most saw brands specify 72dl 20" bars, and others 70dl 20" bars (that aren't really 20"). The chains don't interchange.

Then there will be variations between bar brands as well, even for the same bar mount pattern.

With large drive sprockets, you sometimes need one dl more than specified.

I have found the 600 series echo saws run out of bar adjustment with a 70dl chain so I can't imagine the OP is able to run a 72dl chain

The Z means different drive link count than the more common letter. In this case K. Isn't an 095 often called small Husky mount less oddball than D176? This being Oregon numbering system.
