We had the old 9n Ford and cordwood saw out last weekend.
Lots of people are scared to death of a cordwood saw and they end up as scrap iron or lawn ornaments, ours gets used every year. You just have to be carefull!!
The saw is run off of a flat belt drive assembly that bolts over the tractor pto. It mounts to the 3 point link arms and to the top of the belt drive.

Wow, you've even got a shield for yours! :)

We've got one, but haven't used it in ages... might start using it again after some necessary safety upgrades. Apparently they are quite the handy thing.

My father and great uncle used to cut and season all their wood in 4' lengths, and then cut it down to either 18" or 24" as their buyer specified.

4' lengths sure do stay stacked a lot better than 18" rounds do.

Brings back memories. I learned to drive on that tractor. We had the exact same saw also. Rigged with a similar measuring stick. I can still hear the noise of that blade singing through the wood.

cordwood saws.... yes

overhere i think about 90% of the firewood is home-delivered in 3ft length and cut to fit by these type of saws. I think 1 out of 3 families has one running.

Mostly electrical powered and home build. Shielding, safety ??? just a overseen detail for most of them.

I own a new electrical version and am still counting my fingers after each cut.....

But reality shows it cuts faster (and way longer) on dry or semi dry pieces than any chainsaw can. I still prefer the chainsaw but that is purely a sentiment.

A general rule here in building them (i considered this for a very short moment) is that any construction below 250kg is considered unsafe as the vibration of the blade when locked in a piece will throw the whole thing 'somewhere'.

Saw it happen once, decided to buy a new one instantly....

good but dangerous tool to operate

I don't have a cord wood saw but I do have a 2N. Nice Tractor... Some day I'll have to get my tractors out and take some recent pics of them.
