I've got 4 hair line stress crack's in upper boom. On my Altec AN652 MH. Over loaded it. Do these cracks mean it's done, and I need a new upper boom or can they be repaired. Anybody have this happen to them. Bad day!

Yes, it's no longer safe. I suggest you contact the manufacturer, and go from there.

Lifting equipment is a huge liability for a welding shop to repair, especially if it's against manufacturer specs.

Sorry the cracks are in the glass

Ahhhhhh! LOL

The way it's worded, sounded like you were saying the boom was cracked.

This was a topic in a thread not too long ago... Depending on the bucket material, some guys repair them... Other guys say to replace the bucket.

The upper boom is fiberglass. the cracks are in the boom. The 4 hair line cracks are in the top half, lower side of upper boom.

Ahh, now I see said the blind man!

I'd say it's most definitely toasted then... And I refer back to my original post. Contact the manufacturer, and ask them what you need to do? Lifting devices aren't something to shortcut on.

Perhaps they have a used one in the yard, that you can get cheaper than new?

The fiberglass probably has the same liability issues as metal and there is the added electrical insulation factor that is virtually impossible to restore. If it no longer has to be certified you might find a boat builder / repairer that would set you up with the materials to DIY.
