I have a 1980s vintage Craftsman 16 inch chainsaw with automatic bar oiler. Model # is 358.353690. Friend told me its a relabled Poulan. The saw has been good to me for occasional light use and I look forward to a couple of more years of use out of it, but the automatic oiler quit working. Looked on parts diagram and there is a part that they call an "oil pump". I took this "oil pump" off and found that it is just a plastic housing with a sponge filter in the middle of it -just a filter- no apparent mechanical pump function whatsoever. I blew out the line and it is clear. Put it back together and it still sends no oil out that little hole near the bar. Can someone tell me on what principle does this "oil pump" function. Are there any tricks to get it functioning again? Thanks Joe Stewart :)

Well, your saw is probably an S25, or a little XXV, I'm not sure which. Pictures would help some if you can get some.

Cleaning is usually th ecure on those-if still no go check the impulse line. (And make sure the "pump" isn't in backward)
