Model number matches the 3.7 manual. No reason to believe the cvr was changed

Know we're splitting hairs here but the 3700 and 3800 are 3.7 ci. Only diff. Is the thickness of the rings and make up of the cylinder and piston. The 3700 has a chrome bore and aluminum piston with thin rings and the 3800 is exactly opposite. Both saws perform similar.

So i should say its a craftsman 3700 and a poulan 3800.

can tell from this?

I can tell from that for sure, but I could also tell from the color and the markings that your saw is a 3800. These guys have been trying to tell you that already. Got it now?

You can say its a Craftsman 3.7 if you want to..

... yes thanks mark. I just didn't know there was no other model #s to cover 3800s separately.

Poulan made both the 3.7 and the 3.4 for Craftsman. Exactly the same and the Poulan 3700 and 3400 for the most part, just red not green and different stickers. If you take the air filter cover or the cylinder cover off they will have a date marked on the plastic on the underside. It will be in a circle and have the last 2 numbers of the year made. Most of them should be in 79-82 year range normally.
You'll see the same 3400 model saws in Dayton orange, Skilsaw yellow, Matercraft yellow, Craftsman gray, Wizard brand and I'm sure I'm forgetting some others as well.
I have a 56cc Mastercraft, made in Canada. I just checked it, the date days '87. How would this be possible? The poulan 3400 is the mastercraft 56cc, is it not?

20191031_120542.jpg Threads a few years old but picked this 3.7 up for $20. Rear handle from a 3.4 parts saw, some fuel line, and cleaning god knows how many years of crude from around the coil and flywheel it's a strong runner. Going to put a few tanks through it and then might mod the muffler from the parts saw and try my first base gasket delete.

Can any one I'd this as definitively in the series: 3.4/3.7/3.8
I'm interested in getting one, and it's local.Screenshot_20210723-065820.pngScreenshot_20210723-065748.png
Missing small cover?

That's a very nice looking Poulan 4000, clean and well cared for. Plastic or metal drive cover? Handle looks great and comfortable, and I'd love to see more pics of that great saw. Good for you, Max!
Unfortunately, the drive (sprocket) cover is plastic, slightly damaged, and I've never found a replacement for it. Saw runs well regardless so I live with it.
