This spring I began clearing a group of forty to fifty 12" poplar trees for a pole barn next year. Dropped five trees and quickly buried myself in brush. Then I shifted gears because two, twenty cord truck loads of logs finally showed up to process. Dropping the poplars was put on hold. This week I found a homeowner size chipper on Craig's List. It is a DR Power unit, with an 18 hp horizonally opposed Briggs that just purrs. The brush piles are gone, and now I am cleaning up each tree as it is dropped. So much easier chipping than dragging and piling brush. Works a little harder on the few small oak so I've ordered new knives from the company and will chip those after changing the knives out. From the serial number it is a 2001 model. Hard to believe it is that old. Oil change with Mobil 1, greased the zerks, fresh gas, good to go. Small, but sweet. Hiring the chipping out or renting a chipper just did not work because I'm doing a little at a time, and in a small area. My plan was to buy it and then resell it when done clearing. Now I think I'll just hang on to it. Photos later...

is it a automatic feeding unit?, with Feed rolls ? I have a Wallenstein PTO driven 4" throat chipper I got a little bit of a buy on but it is not mechanically feeding one you have to feed it through yourself. It works but I wish I could afford one with hydraulic feed rolls.

No feed rollers but self feeds surprisingly well. I do keep some lopers close. Feed chute narrows to about 6" x 8". Paid $1250.It has been way to windy for me to drop trees the last few days. One third done, two thirds to go, before hiring a hoe on tracks to remove the stumps. If you did a lot of chipping like trimming an orchard or something then you would want a true self feeding unit. This serves my needs well and is still affordable. First time buying on Craig's List.

You got a good price on that machine. I have looked at their site many times and their largest chipper, which you have, is 3-4 thousand new IIRC.
