I bought a mini crossbow and attatched a fishing reel with 80 lb braid to it. I made a 1 oz steel fishing weight as a point. This thing makes me look like a chump with the throwbag.

A few years ago I used a bow with an arrow weighted with several washers wrapped in tape for a head to put a line in trees. One day a cop pulled up and threatened to write me a ticket. It was illegal to use ANY projectile weapon within city limits. Slings, bean flips, air guns, bows of any size or type were just not allowed.

I would have told that cop to f*** off and go earn the money that I'm paying him to do something beneficial for the community.

Can you vary the pull you take back on the draw? I haven't had good luck with line that small, seems like pulling the weight of the rope and then the friction when it hits the branch is to much for it. Then using that to pull throw line then your line is a pain in the rear. Keep us informed how it works for ya after you log some time with it. It looks like a ton of fun to use.

I've been in the situation before. Was written $1200 in tickets when I was doing nothing wrong in the first place. A hole cop was hassling me for no reason. Then got pissed when I mouthed off to him, and wrote me a ticket for everything he could think of. Judge dropped everything!

I personally know some good cops but have ran across many that use their badge to try to intimidate and provoke people, often times good law abiding citizens. Anyway, back to the line setting devices.

I've lost respect for all cops..... At least in my area.

its not a full size 175 lb crossbow. anything that you would want to reduce the weight for you could easily hit with a throwline and bag. this thing is very manageable. you could have heavier arrows for lower shots. its pretty darn accurate too. i'll try to put up a video on youtube soon.

I circled where i set my rope today. It was roughly 60 - 65'. Its very accurate to that height and easily coulda done higher. This thing is gonna save me tons of aggrevation. You could use a recurve or something. I dont think it would be as accurate. We shot it with the bail closed on the fishing real to see if it could be stopped and it didnt stress anything. So you could abort a bad shot by just closing the bail or grabbing the line.

umm, bigshot? just sayin, why reinvent the wheel?
Do you ride around in the original ford car? Run the very first chainsaw? Are you suggesting that there should be no more innovation? Seems kinda silly. So why hate?

I mean, i just put it up to help out. The thing will do what the bigshot cant. But i dont care if you want to get one.

I just doesn't sound very practical to me. I'm sure I'm far from the best with the big shot, but I can grab it out of the truck and hit pretty much whatever I want real (usually) quick like. Whatever. Crossbow away.

Well yeah i get that. I can make a video of its uses. I use it in the tree. To get from tree to tree. To set lines in adjacent trees. I dont have a whole lot of helmet cam footage of it yet. Once i do, i put a video up.

Don't take this the wrong way. The crossbow idea has been around a looooong time. In certain situations it will work out very well but when trying to isolate a crotch the arrow can be a impediment. Have fun and don't shoot your eye out.
