Anybody using anything like this to cut clean up time this time of year? Chipper Shredder Vacuum?

Check out this video I came across during research.

(Can you name that band playing in the backround?)

Anyway, I'm on a big job and the leaves that are accumulating are dragging us down too much. I've got more big jobs coming up just like it...and by then there will be more leaves so...I'm thinking.

What do you all do to battle clean up this time of year?

Not sure yet cost wise...still looking.

I knew it was the Ramones...I used to be a fan of sorts...but I had to be in the mood.

I'm working on an endless supply of ash trees that are generating lots of deadwood debris which is impossible to cleanup without raking everything almost.

Looking for an alterative method to save time, energy, and make for less loads.

I have one.

If it goes up the hose it gets shredded. Sticks up to a couple of inches in diameter are reduced to chips. While it isn't meant to vacuum branches, a few in your leaf pile are not going to slow it down.

Thanks Mr. He

I didn't think they would, but wasn't sure if there would be any problems as a result. Not to mention nothing was said by them about wood debris.

What did it set you back?$$$

I know a guy that rented out a field to some one that collected leaves when he was too old to farm. The guy put out the word any one could dump there. Run it all into rows, turned it once a month and sold it in the spring/summer as compost. $$$$$$

IIRC it set me back $4000.00 in the skid mount configuration. I bolted it to the tongue of a trailer. I then built a cover for the trailer using 2x2's and shade cloth. I made the top part curved by cutting 3/4" plywood with a jigsaw. Stapled the shade cloth down and the back was solid plywood. It looked reasonably sharp.

The only complaint I have is that it made leaf clean-up so quick and easy that we hardly put any hours on it. I think my meter shows 70 hours over four seasons. In that time it has loaded and shredded thousands of yards of loose leaves.

Looks interesting...would be nice if the hose was able to be a little longer.

BTW...what kinda idiot do you need to be to put glass bottles through that (let alone doing it in a promo video)?

Not an idiot at all. It is a safe and smart way to handle glass due to lack of direct handling and no large sharp pieces. Many parks, zoos, etc. use vacuums to clean up trash. By breaking and or shredding the volume of waste is greatly reduced.

Our CSV's, from 8hp to 24hp, will take care of rocks, wood chunks, chips, sawdust, barkdust, leaves, water, sand, trash and more.

One other thing; a longer hose is not a good idea. The power of the vacuum causes the hose to shrink as heavier objects, such as bunches of wet or frozen leaves, enter the nozzle. Using that hose is like wrestling with a strong heavy snake or charged firehose, it takes a strong man. It still saves a lot of work and is worth the effort.

Can't say I've ever put anything through mine except leaves/yard debris. I bought mine used for $600 and have only replaced a couple of impellers on it. I made over $3k first year just doing curbside leaf removal after work. In fact I'll be pulling it out this week and putting on my leaf box for fall clean-ups.

Putting the glass in is not so much the concern...blowing it back out on to the ground (as in the video) earned the title "idiot" in my book - I should have clarified that in original post.

will these things handle ground up stump shavings and soil or will aggregate in the soil destroy the impellers?

Yeah, but I do think the idea is to blow into a truck or trailer of some sort.

How bout that poor chicken?!
