Had a good chuckle last week when I saw a new competitor's choice of name for his company-"'Git 'er Down Tree Service". Another hack figures he is going to make a pile of $$$$$ after retiring from emergency services in Toronto I believe. Doesn't it sound oh so professional!

They'll regret that choice when the popularity of Larry the Cable Guy goes the way of Billy Ray Cyrus and William Hung.

We have a BIG DOG and a LONE WOLF here.

One of the funnier was when one DISCOUNT TREE SERVICE found out there was another one in the county to the north changed his signage to BUDGET DISCOUNT TREE SERVICE.

I worked for a disscount tree service in south gerogia. Doing pine mostly with Husky 372's 2 pickup trucks and the owners 4 kids the youngest was 14 and had already visited the hospital because the dogs/cleats on the saw, as he rested it on his right thigh dug in and cut him severely. They used thongs or forks on a small tractor to load logs. They made a living.

Wasn't there also a HOWLIN' DOG for awhile?

My favorite truck to see is EVENING AND WEEKEND TREE SERVICE.

Here's a few I've seen around town:

"Danglin' Dan's Tree Service" ( I'm not sure if that's his climbing style or a boast, and I DON'T want to know, either)

"Two Men and a Chainsaw"

"Tarzan's Tree Service"

"Two Dogs Tree Service"

And my favorite, spray painted on a pick-up truck and flatbed trailer: "Tree Removal and Roof Repairs" (Ooops, no problem, we can fix that!)

there's an outfit here called gutter-r-done. when I recently installed new gutters, I specifically told the contractor NOT to call them. I can't stand that crap, one idiot makes up a line, and suddenly everyone is saying it, putting it on the windshields of their pickups, etc.

personally i began as a landscape co and phased into doing only trees but i named my co One Call Landscaping as my last name is Call and i work alone

a guy around here got in trouble for the slogan on his septic truck " you chuck it we suck it" i think he got heavily fined for not removing it

LOL!

I actually talked with a guy who was bragging about his really cool original name for a tree company. I didn't have the heart to tell him that not only is "out on a limb" just not even remotely original, but it also is pretty stupid.

I apologize ahead of time to anyone who uses this name for their company.

(I guess I should also admit that the name I used was kind of stupid as well)

Sounds good to me, get her on the freakin ground, spare the ISA lectures, the arborist/estimator showing up to make "suggestions", walking around like the Pope, attempting to run up the bill, selling false hope for half-dead trees, etc.. Do your job, if someone wants a tree gone, do it.

no offense taken richh
some guys just make up the dumbest names we have a tree co. here in mass called Savatree ( kind of ironic when i saw them running a whole bunch of old growth red oaks through a giant chipper)

whats the worst is when a hack lowballs you on a bid and you drive by after the job is done and you see a ladder on the ground, tree topped 10 feet up and blood all over the ground. happened to me today i drove by a job i was supposed to do and saw the awful mess!

"I think it's ridiculous when people use their first or last names in the name of their company.'

Yeah that really sticks in your CRAW, FOR Darn sure doesn't it?

My company name IS my last name, but in another language (sneaky).

It's a darn shame that this farsighted fount of fecklessness is not allowed on the Homeowner Helper forum. They are missing such good sense! If they want their dog or their teenagers gone, help em out there too!

True story; Yesterday a guy called wanting an estimate on 8 removals. Said they were all too big and would fall on his house in the next storm. After I told him I helped trees live not die he said, well, my wife likes the pecan tree, can you prune it instead?

I went there today and sold him on pruning mulching etc 6 trees and removing 2. He said he went with me because I was cheaper (pruning is cheaper than removing, duh), i knew what I was talking about, and I shared good information (ISA brochures) with him.

Instead of a quick removal buck and never seeing him again, I'll have a client for life. That makes a business--and a community--sustainable--better tree care. The burbs are a long way from the bush.

The End. Moral of the story--you know what it is. Kiss my ring, clarence old bean!

I saw one in the yellow pages the other day, "TOP THAT TREE SERVICE" there is alot of tree services around here with goofy names like that. Most of them list topping as one of their services.

I use my last name. The bonus marketablity of it is that it provides the understanding that it is family owned and operated and that we can be counted on because our family's name/reputation is on the line. It was passed on from my father who previously owned the business. I have some customer's that have been with us for over 60yrs. So I'm not about to change the name. The name is branded and it keeps the phones ringing day in and day out. If I was just starting out I may have chosen something different. Why is it you don't like first or last names? It happens in every industry and isn't frowned upon in today's marketing courses.

Nick, people buy tree service companies that are named after the original owner, cause of the name. A good name is worth a lot, how about this, a company around for a long time in BC, called Joe Skillen Treetoppers was sold to a guy called Larry, he kept the name. This company doesn't top very many trees, the man realized he would have to be retarded to change the name of the most well known tree company in town. People that had known Joe since the 60s would be like "who the hell is Larry? Where is Joe?" Whatever works, hows this for a pompous company name "THE arborist", must be an ISA guy, the nerve. Speaking of last names how about Asplundh, in your face, biggest in the world, and utility, I love it.
