Well I ran into a rare case of serious underbidding. When that infrequent event does occur, I usually just figure it is a costly mistake and eat it w/o mention to the customer, but this time I knew they were really really happy with the work , as we were taking ~8 45' trees down over shrub/flower/herb beds, and did not so much as harm a leaf.
The bid was for 500, and I figured if I left it up to the customer to pay anything extra I might get another 100, so it was worth asking. The hours would have been over $1000,and I told him so.
At the time of my call, he said that he had had another $500 bid too, so I promptly withdrew the request. He called me after talking to his wife, whom saw all the work we did, and offered to give me the full $1000, if I would just cut the stumps a little lower. I did and he paid, and has become THE CUSTOMER OF THE YEAR.

I under bid the removal of 10 stumps yesterday by around 200 bucks. DONT know WHAT I was thinking, the first stump took an hour with the RG85. I didnt mention it to him. Normally I close jobs for a higher than targeted hourly rate. I also had dull teeth on the grinder, which attributed to the increased time somewhat. Finished that job and gave him a bid for another $1700 in work.

I ground for another 7 hours and called it a day .

i under bid the last 2 days ,,,work but we did it really fast so that was ok ...EXCEPT i cracked a concrete step which i promptly removed and re - poured it looked great but my customer freaked and began to snourt copiuos amounts of something and then began takling to himself [seriously] ... i didnt know what to do? he was moving his mouth all around and changing the subject over and over . and running around his yard looking up to the sky and stuff ....my helper said he got lost in his own yard for a min .while i wasent watching ... so i pulled my truck down to block his drive way in case he tried to bust out of there with out paying... i told him to just take off $$$whatever he thoughT was fair and he could have a pro come re -pour this one step .. like 4 bags ready mix no big deal ... he got ALL sweaty and pale looking.... i thought he was about to OD .... i was really, stressed then he just gave me a CHECK MINUS 250 and said he needed to go ... i was actually so glad to be finally done and went home and took a 2 hour nap .... sheew

ok now for this ... [[[same week]]] we do tree work for a different customer ... i get home and this thank you card is in my mail hand written and hand drawn ...it has a nice moon drawing with some stars etc and colored in ...... it says moon shine stars align my tree feel fine ...turn page when its etc tree service time ... then thankk you jerry and crew for all your helpful info , hard work and considerate service ... i appreciate it immensly ... anna ..... wow it those customers that make it all worth while .............
