Guys, Found out today that by being first on the bid I lost another job. Homeowner showed my bid to another service and he beat me by $50.00. The other guy used a bucket truck on the tree and really tore up the yard. Seems he had the homeowner sign a release about minor yard damage. The homeowner called me to ask if I did landscaping!! May there is a God , and boy does she have a sence of humor

I never call back the same day they call, wait till tomorrow, then call to schedule to look at job late the next day.
Really cuts down on that crap, I couldn't imagine even asking what the other guys bid was. And the price I quote is what it costs. I found if you let them call and talk you down a bit, word gets around not to take your first price.

i disagree with begley ... allthough i respect his post immensly ,,,,,,,usually ..... i aways call imm. after i recieve a call and i inform the customer of the yard damage release factor .. .. in other words the competition[ BS FACTOR] THE CLIENT likes the instant gratifaction ...its working well for me ... you got TO compete so do it wisley and informed ..... now calling the next day does help decrease the odds of getting a slack client .............................................................................................................................. how many calls do you get in a day ? hmmmmm? dark

I like calling back ASAP. Works better for me to talk to them directly, and get to the work as soon as possible after the consultation so I don't forget so much. It's a lot easier when you're not having to give free estimates, and selling your time and opinions instead.
