Hi, and welcome!

The David Bradley 917 saw is Power Products powered, so engine parts are definitely out there. These can be found on places like ebay as well as through other members on this forum.

If you do decide to pick up the saw, take the time to give it a thorough inspection - noting things such as broken, worn and missing parts, fasteners etc. You will then be able to put together a list of your needs and begin the best part of the process - the hunt for parts!

The 917 is a geardrive saw, and these types of machines on their own are a great piece of early saw design and history. I don't have any DB saws in my collection thus far, but there are many knowledgeable forum members on this site who will only too pleased to offer advice and help with your vintage David Bradley saw project.

Best of luck, and I look forward to seeing your progress in future posts.

Regards,

Chris.

thankyou for some of the info, think i'll pick up bothsaws he has, the otherone is a homelite c-51 .i can get both for 75.00, maybe less. they don't look to bad ,look complete.

Two David Bradley local to me.

FWIW:
I spotted two David Bradleys in back of a small engine shop in a pile of junk saws. Owner called 'em 'David Bradleys'. Big, old clunky looking things. We were diggin' thru the pile (what a freakin mess) looking for Mac 10-10 parts.

Shop is 5 mi. south of St. Joseph, Mo. city limit on hwy 59 at 'Halls' (unincorporated). Hard to miss the place.

P.M. me if you need more directions.

I'm going back soon to see if he has any old Macs or Homies. Like to find another XL2 (ish).

Here it is.

I'm partial to the C51 (not surprising..........see the my C5 avvy pic), but I also dig the old gear drives. Get 'em both! That's a good deal, and you'll have fun tinkerin' with 'em.

Hardest problem is finding carb kits.

Many of the DB saws of that style that I've seen had common Tillotson HL's. RK88-HL is the kit. Dunno if the carbs were OEM or swapped on...

The Power Products carbs can be a bit harder to find diaphragms for, but not impossible. Power Products/Tecumseh used those basic carbs for a long time. The Sears listing linked above even list's the repair kit with "limited availability" and a phone number to call. Better than "NLA"...
