dawgs

Now I'm confused. I thought Jacob J.'s post # 4 said you needed the taller chain cover.

No, you don't need the tall cover, just use the regular cover. And I don't know what all the fuss is about, just get the big dawgs off bailey's for the 440. I have them for my 440 and 460 and they are perfect. :)

I will

I spoke with Jeff @ Bailey's today. He said their dawgs are bigger than the Stihl big dawgs. Plus, I have to drill the dawgs to fit the roller chain guard. I don't know how to use a drill, LOL.

Post a pic of your saw with the Bailey dawgs!!

I will, when I get my new 35mm. All I have now is a POS digital that can't take a clear or up close pic worth a s:censored: . I used to have a good 35mm but it won't work any more. I will be posting a lot of pics when I get my camera.;):D

Here is my 044 with Madsen's fallin' dawg kit, which includes the ceramic roller. Also a 3/4 wrap USA handlebar. Notice that it has the stock clutch cover and the dawg points line up just fine. Taller cover is comin' soon.:D

So, it sounds like the original poster's problem was the dealer getting him the outer dawg for an 046, and coupling it with the large inner dawg for an 044. I wish ELLC would come back to this thread and comment on what it took to get his spikes to line up perfectly.

What's even more confusing, is that Stihl offers a complete kit, p/n 122 007 1019, that includes the big cover, the large black rubber chip guard, the white plastic chain bumper on inside of cover, both the larger inner & outer dawgs, the roller chain guard, and the outer dawg bolts & locknuts. Why does the complete kit come with the outer cover?

For those with Stihl's parts, p/n's 1122 664 0506 and 1122 664 0501, and are running the stock cover, do the dawgs line up perfectly?

ETA: This will be for my 044, year 1998.

ETA 2: OK, OK, I think I now understand the purpose behind the taller cover. The larger dogs hold the bottom of the saw off the ground, and the taller cover hangs a bit lower so that it fits flush with the ground. Wait, that can't be right. If that were the case, then the bottom of the saw would be uneven, and would more than likely rock back and forth when starting, or sitting pretty on the bench.

The Stihl "kit" is for those wanting a side cover. You can just buy the 1122 (066) dogs and roller. Yes, they line up perfectly on either cover.

The big cover is to protect the user when using a wrap handle. I like them... and put them on all my wrap saws.

Thanks Lakeside53. There are folks on eBay selling Stihl parts, and it's nice to know when you can buy them cheaper from the dealer. For instance, cheapstihlparts is selling the roller for $7.35 BIN plus $2.50 shipping. I wish I could get a print out of the IPL with what my dealer would charge for the parts. It would be nice to compare against eBay part sellers.

Some dealers mark up the lower priced parts more then the higher, and it's up at each dealer what they charge. Most just stick with MSRP, but even that varies by region. I was a bit low on the roller set. It's $6.35 out here.

???

is there somewhere we could look up optional parts and the numbers to go with theme online ??
