what i am saying is this;it's not my job to babysit every tree guy/gal or run around critiquing anyone else's work.i see plenty of stuff everyday i wou;dn't or would do.some i try to remeber and some i hope goes in my favor in the future as putting me on a higher standard in the potential customer's eyes.

they do what they do and seem comfortable doing it their way.no one got hurt ,nothing that i saw in any of his pics or videos led me to believe anything ever got damaged.

i still make mistakes now and then, they are dumb but i pay for the results and try and learn something along the way.none of us are perfect but as soon as one of us thinks we are, were gonna be in for a big let down.

i still fear trees, chippers, saws, bucket trucks, cranes, motorcycles, snowmobiles, cars, and airplanes.guess that little bit of fear in the back of my mind has kept me alive doing all those things.

stay safe and use good judgement.that is all i can say to anyone.

I haven't been on in a while, and missed the bulk of this thread, but I figured I would toss in my two cents.

I think AS is an excellent tool for the growth of a climber/tree worker/whatever, and though alot of the advice offered may not have been provided in friendly terms, I think it still carries alot of weight.

I fell 35 feet from a birch doing a removal when I was 17 yrs old. Hooks cut out while I was repositioning my lanyard (single-leg lanyard), with no TIP on the rope above me. My back still hurts some days, but I am lucky to be alive. Beating a dead horse, but you gotta stay tied into that tree bro.

And also, helmets! I had a guy get caught in the head with a widow-maker from a 70-ft dead hard maple while cutting timber in New York. He would have been dead instantly if he was not wearing his helmet. His helmet was DESTROYED, you could have fit all the pieces into a quart-ziploc, but he walked away with a concussion and some time off, instead of in a pine box.

Nails, you seem to me like a cool dude, and you definately have the ambition and drive to be a seriously effective arborist. I think other than the obvious safety violations you did a pretty good job. Naturally, there are some areas of your game you could tighten up, as there are for all of us.

Good Vid, great helmet cam. Try and learn from what everyone on AS has to say, there is a wealth of knowledge on this site, with probably thousands of years of experience from all the combined members.

Stay Safe.

I think nails was trolling us with this one. Thats why I didnt bother to respond more - the dan and I have already been through this once with nails, as have others

He knew exactly what was going to happen when he posted that #$#@, thats why he made a point of being so obvious with it.

What exactly his motive is I cant quite figure out...

I don't think so, he want's help with critiques that will make him more productive. I say work on safety first, he basically said screw safety, I wanna learn better rigging techniques.

which is why i jumped on the soapbox.

I hope you guys are right, I really do. I like nails.

The dan remembers that talk we had with nails too though, and judging by that freeclimbing show and tell, I'd say he was trying to rile everyone up, thats all.

Treeco: as far as the dan trolling...well you two got your own history to work out, lol. dan is a junior sort of no? you did teach him how to roll up a rope Correct??

Nails wouldn't post that to rile us up. Most of the people that would come down on him are either inexperienced knowitalls or guys that haven't been 'round here that long. Most of us know nails don't dig on the safety too much and there's not much we can say to change his ways, which is why most of us didn't say anything.

Hey guys, read through this and want to tell ya'll that I didn't do this vid to rile anybody up. That's not productive and a waste of everybody's time. I wanted to try the camera I just got, and this was my next tree so up I went.

I do every tree different, depending on what I have to work with (who want's to do what) just like anybody else. Tree work is a game of judgement, I've been taking them down for 16 years (over 60 years between us three, not beating my chest, clarifying) with out being hospitalized/putting anyone working under me in any pain, having an insurance claim, or ever walking from a job.

I am aware of all of your concerns and will weigh them against my experience doing the job firsthand. I expressed the concerns to the crew, congrat guys, my old man is getting a Petzl Vertex, I told him enough is enough and he understood. He started telling me about how nice and light his old Asplunh bump caps were, so I gave him a Vertex that a buddy had to try on (it actually fit on his fat head, lol.) and he's getting one this week. I've been working on that for well over a year, so thanks for keeping in on the forefront of my mind.

Other than that they both said they were never caught offguard, in any danger, or even so much as got tickled by a limb, despite what you may think you saw.

Hope some more of you can understand and learn to give some grace to others, even though you may have had other experiences. We're all children in someone's eyes.

I think we need to keep in mind that people with little to no experience come here to learn. Many are lurkers. I would probably never say anything to someone else on their job. But on a public forum we should be showing methods by the book.

Your old man in a helmet? Now THAT'S worthy of a vid. Keep 'em coming, Nails.

That was a hell of a gap to span putting a helmet on your dad. Good job.

I have no idea what this troll talk is about.

I think it was to impress somebody. I don't know why else with the freeclimbing. Its seems to me he was bragging from before too. its the obstinace that got me. What's next? bringing up peoples mammas? Just a lot of bad mojo going round with that, makes my ears prick. hell On those last poplers I did I was tied in 3 times with one to a diffrent tree.
