I cut down a buch of trees in my yard over the past few weekends, and most of the stumps area easy enough to get to and take care of, but I have one that is about 12" away from an oak that I don't want to harm. The stump is about 12" in diameter, and has a hollow spot in the middle about 3" in diameter. It is already down to ground level. What recomendations would you have for this sort of situation?

If it is already to ground level, why take a chance on harming the other tree with no gain. Sounds like your stump is already rotting away on it's own.

Heck, plant a small plant of some kind in that 3" center spot. It will help hide it until it's completely rotted away.

Also, if it's at ground level, you can put some mulch around the bottom of the oak you're going to keep. That will pretty much take care of it.

hadn't really throught too much about just mulching around it. I guess this is a classic case of trying to over think a simple situation.
