I've been using a 4-1 distel with 8mm beeline on the 7/16 hi-vee, and all of a sudden that 4-1 isn't grabbing like it should. So, I had to go 5-1, but now it's too grabby. The rope isn't that old at all. I bet it's only seen 20-30 climbs. What do you think would cause this sudden loss of friction?

You know, come to think of it, this problem first reared its ugly head after I set my rope in an Aspen. I wonder if the slippery nature of that bark is what did it in. Might just need a good washing.

I've been using the 4-1 Distel for a while without any problems. Using a 10mm Beeline on a 12mm Tachyon. Prior to that used it on a 1/2" Yale XTC without any problems either. Maybe you should try cleaning the rope if the problem just started.

The Poison Ivy, Hi-vy is very supple as well as it's small diameter is a contributing factor. I found the 8mm Bee-line to work better with the Distel and VT. My Ivy has a few years on it and my Hi-vy is new. They both responded to the 8mm equally well. Funny Sherrill lists both the 8mm and 10mm at 5400 lbs. on their website and Yale lists it at 8000 for the 5/16 (8mm)
and 7500 for the 3/8 (which they call 9mm) on their site.

Yeah, the 4-1 distel has been super for me. I like it significantly more than the vt, but that's just been my observation for my climbing style, etc.
