I made one out of leftover corrugated cardboard for a guy and he used it for three years. After it finally wore out, he asked me to make him another one in exchange for a Bud Lite. ![Smile :) :)](data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7)

I've seen firehose bar covers used as long as I can remember -- 1960's.....
and I still have a couple.
however....
It is hard to beat the Stihl covers......
Especially at $5.39 for the 22" cover at Ace Hardware!
If I can find some letter templates, I'd like to put a buyers name on the scabbard. Like "Big John of the Pacific N.W.". I don't dare try and paint freehand anything that involves something other then straight lines.![]()
Like this stencil set, but you might find a similar one cheaper:

Another related use for old firehose is guards for crosscut saws. You just have to cut 1 1/2" hose to length, split one "edge", and provide straps to hold it in place to cover the teeth. Ski straps work the best, but they are about $6 each!
You can use up more hose, with less work!
