Here's just something I'm curious about. How many guys here cut in winter? As a suburban chainsaw cowboy, I pack it in unless something really needs cutting.

What keeps you out in the cold? Work? Firewood? Kicks?

No bugs, saws run great, easier to skid, no dirt, beautiful scenery. Drawback is stump height, have to go back in spring and cut them off. Less leaves, and the wood splits much easier.

Firewood.
Now is the perfect time to cut down here. I burn about 15
face cord a year and I don't care to cut when it's 95` 95%
humidity.

If I need firewood or have cleanup to do it's a lot better now then when 90+ out there!

Cut a lot in winter. Too much else to do in when the weather is "nice". Like mow my yard over and over. And over. There is something wrong with that picture.

I have a self-imposed rule not to cut when it's too cold to get anything to start without plugging it in. That's about -20. In ten years that will be Zero; ten years ago it was -30!

All winter long. Only thing that has stopped me is when the snow got over my knees a couple of years ago and last year when we iced over and froze solid for a month, could of skated in the woods it was so slippery.

Besides I'd rather freeze than fry. (you southern boys probably disagree on that :D )

Sure why not but ya know

I grew up in Illinois and live near Los Angeles. My children were born in Los Angeles and they don't understand why I wear 4 sweaters when I go up in snow and adjust to my liking.

After the first tank of gas I go to 3 sweaters then 2 sweaters on the next tank of gas. Kind of depends on how much wind is blowing.

The family wears ski outfits and usually hides in the cabin in front of the fire place.

I cut all year round rain, snow, sunshine etc..alot of firewood about 200 cord a year, and most of the time I'm doing commercial thinning-selective cuts....

Later Rob...

I cut mostly in the winter. Here in Tennessee, the ticks and mosquitoes get hungry when the weather warms up. Lately I've been doing some carving with my saws. Imagine this new hobby will keep me cutting year round.

Winter is the best, climb up the pristine snow covered slopes, find a nice tree, and timber, into the snow...and then the ski patrol runs me off the slopes..J/K!..Seroiusly, I love cutting in the winter, it is the best time to drop some mature douglas firs for vigas. Firewood splits better, and trees fall easier. I will say this much, I paid $350 for a nice pair of steel toe, gore tex, water proof nylon sided boots, and that was by far my best investment yet!

:D I cut whenever I can, I do not care if it is 90 or 10 outside I will just bundle up and put my Carhartts on, warm the saws up and go cutting, I just love to cut!

I will cut firewood year round but prefer to cut in the winter here in the carolina's , the heat and bugs in the summer will drive you crazy! and it really only gets down in the 30's here for winter and thats cold!!!!!!for us rebels:blob2: :blob2: :blob2:

Like many other who have posted I actually prefer cutting in the winter. The cold temps do not bother me. If I am cutting I am generally also burning so heat is always available. As for summer cutting it is darn tough to burn durning hot weather. If I can drop the trees, shove the tops in a pile and not burn them then summer is ok. I am looking at a big job coming up that will require all trees cut to be removed or burnt. I can assure you this will be done in the winter. Also there are few leaves to deal with in the winter.
