Does this look like i could use a 59DL chain?

My first 2100 with 404 chain out lasted my 3/8” chain like three to one. The 404 teeth are longer.

My 2100’s, 1100/385/285 will all run 404.

Does the saw run??? If it does great but if it doesn't I'd make sure it did before going out and spending money on a bar and chain . I went down that road a one to many times working on those old saws that turned out to be duds but they had a nice bar and chain.

In our area a .404 / .058 bar and chain combo would be non existent. It would be better to switch to a .404 pitch .063 gauge chain like has been previously mentioned.

Ax-Man, great minds think alike, before I invest in any kind of chainsaw or like equipment i go through the checks: Spark? Compression? Can i rebuild the carb?

This old 270 does run, like a beast! I revived it 20 years ago with a rebuild to the Tillotson HL carb. Still has tons of compression and a hot spark.

As far as a different bar, that will be my long term plan, but since it uses an obsolete bar mount pattern it will require some custom work. It appears very close to a D009 pattern but I would need to drill relocated holes for the tension adjuster. However, at some point this will be my only option, and since it's a 95cc saw i could go bigger on the bar length.

Got the email back from Oregon... they are no longer making 404 chain in 058.

The above is an 82cc Remington with 18” roller nose and 7/16” chain.

Slide the bar/chain/rim on as an assembly. Replace the washer and nut.

Damn 7/16, that's even bigger stuff huh?

If i had to I'd remove the clutch to install the chain, on my old 270 the sprocket is oriented toward the engine (clutch weights on the outside).

I'm pretty confident the 59DL chain would work, but I'm going to check some more measurements tonight.

UPDATE:

Today i got 2 new old stock Carlton chains in the mail from Ebay, 59DL, Full Chisel skip-chain, and they fit with some room to spare, I'm in business!

I realize full chisel skip chain is probably not ideal, but it will work, and what i could find.

This chain sure looks like heavy duty stuff compared to 3/8!

Fantastic. And .404 .058 -- the rare duckling has been found.

I run skip on all my saws and prefer it. Some here complain about it not cutting smoothly, but maybe they are making furniture, so who knows.

I'm sure the chain will work fine for what I'll be doing, occasional cleanup work, felling some trees, etc.

Before this endeavor i didn't know the difference between semi and full chisel, i just always used the bulk chain we had and kept it sharp, i think it was full chisel Oregon chain.
