Ive been thinking about buying a new saw. I am not dissatisfied with my 350 husky, I just want to try something new. Any comments on these two saws? I like the feel of the dolmar pretty well but my buddy has a similar model (111i I think) and it doesnt seem that fast. I think my husky 350 would probably beat it. I checked out some specs and maybe the dolmar revs slower because of the long stroke. When I say revs slower I mean acceleration, not top end rpms. Anyway the new model 540 is a few ccs bigger and im thinking it might be good. I always wanted to try a solo but i have no dealers around so I would have to buy it online. Any comments or experiences on either model would be welcome.:blob2: :blob2: :blob2:

I can`t give you any real good feedback on these two saws, maybe someone else will step in, but the 651sp is a very good saw but apparently not known for exceptional performance like the 651P is. You might find that you spent money for a performance upgrade by getting rid of the 350 in favor of the 651sp and then find the performance to be similar. Can`t really say anything about the Dolmar. I can say that the 340, 345, and 350 Huskies do respond well to muffler mods and grinding the ears off of the carb adjuster screw limiters so that you can adjust it properly. Don`t remove the caps entirely because the small screws within are so small that they are a real PITA to get a driver on by themselves.

A 651SP may not out perform a 350 by a noticible amount.

Have you considered the JD CS56 or CS62 (same frame). They are made by Efco (EMAC) in Italy.
A CS56 may cut slightly better than a 540. It would be easier to get parts for thru the John Deere next day parts service.

The 350 is as good as any medium duty 50cc saw.

I think the 540 is an upgraded sachs-dolmar 115i, and that saw is a cuttin fool.

If you're planning to budget that kind of $$$ for a saw...go the xtra $50 and get a Solo 651pro. It's the strongest 3ci saw on the market pushing a full 4hp! I haven't found a stock saw in it's class that can outcut it. You'd have to pry it out of my cold, dead hands to get me to part w/mine.

My brother is stationed at Ft. Drum. He has a Solo dealer up there. Solo does have a distributor in NY. I would suggest contacting them for a dealer near you.

Good luck and be careful!

DOLMAR PS540

Hey BDENNY. I've been selling dolmar since 79' I have PS540's in stock 54cc 2.2kw not the highest revver but loads of torque holds rpm well in the cut. most other saws that rev higher will lose it in the cut. the PS540 is a combo of the older 111,115 saws. the prices are $299.95 with 18" .325,.058 or 309.95 with 3/8 .058 if you want to try one let me know i am 15 mi east of I-87 saratoga later........ Good friend has both a Solo 651SP, and Dolmar 111N which is R/B the PS540 with 2 more cc. I sold him both.
18", .325 chisel on each.
According to him:
Side by side soft straight wood, the Dolmar has a very slight edge.
Knotty, hard wood, or starting to throw some dust, the Dolmar really pulls away.
Even though the Solo uses some new metal av springs, he says the Dolmar has a noticeable lower vibration level.
