Air purge valves (black flap) positioned on either side of carb, located below the carb on the carb box floor.
Look just to the left of the green fuel line.

Since air filter is mounted on a down ward angle, and the filter pleats are on the bottom, dirt can drop-fall down, thereby helping to keep itself cleaner.

When throttle is cracked the flaps are closed.
 
Cold weather-Winter operation, warm air coming off the cylinder warms incomming air preventing carb icing, melts snow, and provides smoother running.
