Alright, I found a place where I can get a 7900 for $556 and a 5100 for $335. The price includes a 18" bar and chain for the 5100 and power head only on the 7900. So my question is, what kind of bar mount system do they use? Is it like the Husky or like the Stihl, or do they use some different type. The next question is why does no one like the 6400? It would seem on paper to give the 361 one heck of a run for a lot less money, and the 361 is really popular saw. Well, thanks for the help.

bar mounts are large Husky,Oregon D009, for the 7900 and small Husky,Oregon K095, for the 5100.
6400 is the same saw as the 7900 except for piston/cylinder combo.
So if you are going to carry around the same weight why carry a lesser saw

The 6400 is close to 2 lbs (.8 kg) heavier in the real world, and a lot more bulky than the 361, that's why.......

Those saws aren't comparable at all, even though the power output is pretty close.

No point in getting the weight of the 6400, without the power of the 7900, about the same as Husky 365 vs 372xp, just more pronounced.

The PS6400 is a great saw. Very dependable very smooth and good power gobs of torque. Troll keeps saying its too heavy compared to a 361. At least in my area the 361 does not exist come to think of it not many new stihls do exist in this area lol. Around here many 362 /365 owners are buying the PS6400. Those are great prices are they from a dealer or off sleasebay??

I love my 6400!!
I would have prefered the 7900 but my dealer gave me a awsome price on his display (never used) 6400 that I could not say no to.

And later on you can always convert it to 7900, right?

Thanks for the responses. I was hoping that my 575xp and the 7900 would take the same bar/chain. Those prices are from a dealer and they seem better than anything I have seen on ebay so far. The "dealer" for Dolmar around here doesn't actually have a store front so I went looking for them else where. I guess what you are saying about the 6400/7900 makes a lot of sense, if the saw weighs the same you can never have too much power. If the deal works out for the saws at that price I will let everyone know where to get them. I don't want to look stupid if it doesn't work out and I got everyone all excited.

Yeah, those folks seem pretty straight-up. Talked to them last week. Can't beat the prices, really. And it will be nice to have another saw that uses the bars and chains you have already.

Heads up about ID'ing sources who are not AS sponsors: it's generally a NO-NO, though I can't remember which AS rule # that was.

CPU, wondering if its the place out there you checked for a nib orange cover 7900.

Thanks for the heads up. I guess it wouldn't be a great idea to bite the hand that feeds ya. Anyway I am still excited about getting the new saws. I am curious if the 5100 will outperform the ms290 even though it is out displaced by 6cc. The 7900 is hard to beat too. I can't believe it has almost a full H.P more than my 575xp. I really like that saw though and thought I got a pretty good deal until I found these Dolmars. I guess I will have to get a 20" bar for the 575 and relegate it to some serious firewood cutting duties. Or I may see if anyone is interested in buying it. I can't imagine I would need both of them. Tough decisions.

Yup, and they didn't have any left. Oh well. Their price was still very competitive, though I can get powerheads locally for $600 so I'd probalby go that route or buy one from DN and have him mod it at the same time.

Does DN have a website? If not does anyone have contact info?

Sounds like the 7900 would get more votes over the 372xp currently if the powerheads are priced almost the same? That Dolmar is a lot of saw for the buck.

... I was hoping that my 575xp and the 7900 would take the same bar/chain. ....

They do, both use the "large Husky"/ Oregon D009 mount.

And I wouldn't want a 575xp.
372xp/2171 and PS7900 are the ones to choose from.
The Dolmar is out of the question here, as the closest dealer is 1000 miles away.......

...and the 372 xp has more than enough power for my use, and doesn't look like a wacuum cleaner.

I would surely trust Big Dave to work on my saws, if I wanted them ported.....

....there is plenty evidence that he is a real nice guy, and a very good craftsman.

If I wanted a 353 modded though, I would send it to EHP, as he makes them beat the modded 346xps, and PS5100Ss..........
