We had a hurricane blow thru here last Sept. Without power for 8 long days and some of the residents ran those cheap, loud generators that you cannot hear each other talk next to them, all night long. Well most people had their windows open as it was hot inside and cool outside while sleeping. Lots of hating going on.

yep same here we had an ice storm some people didn't have power for a month. the generator on our tour bus is a catapillar 4 cyl diesel. pretty loud.

I never heard any complaints about noise when we had our big ice storm roll through. Some where without power for a month in the dead of Winter. They would have liked for us to run our saws 24-7. My crew worked 31 days straight.

Yeah imo thats BS about what times you can work on a Sunday. If its 8-6 or whatever Monday-Sat then whats makes Sunday any different? In Indiana you can't by beer or liquor on Sundays. I can only think of reason, whatever happen to the policy of separation of church and state?

i doubt its illegal to work on sunday in indiana. it might be morally wrong but not legally. he's in germany, wierd stuff happens there. like no speed limits on highways and people pass like maniacs. cant but liquor here on sunday but you can buy beer after 11 or 12 in this county. some counties around here are dry. i'd hate to live in a place like that. i remember working katrina in louisiana, you could buy a beer or whatever at a store and go outside and drink it in the open. no open container laws like they have most places.

You'd be surprised where blue laws still exist. Here in WI the last vestige is at auto dealers. The only laws I'm familiar with, that restrict work, are time ordinances that vary with municipalities. Around here some do have later start times on Sundays vs. weekdays.

I visited my cousin out in Beebee ark. last summer.Dry county.Everybody drives down to the county line where there is a big grocery store size place that sells nothing but liquor, and beer.
People fill up shopping carts.
I think they said you could get a beer at one of the private clubs, but other than that,,,,,,,head down the highway to get a beer.

Across the river from where I live ,the city of palmetto does not allow beer sales on Sunday.
One of the busiest convenience stores ,stays closed on Sunday B/C he says the loss beer sales makes it not worth minding the store that day.

that too but it was my own job so i got a nice chunk of change, big prune job i have been doing weekends and nights, one buddy/goundie here and there he dont need much to be happy

Try turning their head around with a hundred dollar bill. I pay my groundies well and they always work their asses off. Pay them well and you'll never have a problem having them show up when you need them. My number 1 groundman still thanks me every time I pay him and has often told me that He would work for less money. Funny, when I'm slow he is calling me pushing me to find more work. :D

I gave the wife a fresh hundred (again) couple of days ago and she starts wining about having to break it lol.

I have always paid my help real good and treated them with respect but some of them, it is never enough. I have had a great one for a few years now and that is all I need. Got him CA' d too.

You want to really keep ground around and make them happy....buy them a $27,000 Dingo with attachments. I tried and it works.

treevet is right, I picked up a used bobcat mt50 at an auction back in October, made a grapple for it and my ground guys love it. Problem is they will suffer from a syndrome I like to call "dingo dependency" meaning on jobs you can't use it on or when its down they HATE life while working. O well I can deal with the "softness" of my guys if they enjoy working the other 99% of the time.

They do get a little mentally softer, but they are there every day. I tripped over a used MT50 after I bought my new Dingo. Then put a grapple on it and just use it in the firewood yard.

We generally drag most of the brush piles with the mini along with the wood and tons of other stuff to. GM has said a number of times he is deeply in love with the Dingo.

o dont worry i pay as good as i can it was little compared to the job my wife works at a country club and we got in with the owners so i was pruning on a golf course. he got a couple hundred bucks out of it everything stayed so he was just asisting me pretty much they have there own chipper and handle everything that doesnt need climbed. All done till winter i put the oaks off till then for obvious reasons. Ha and i still wont spike em even if the covered in ice, we dont much but we do what do you guys up more north than me do to deal with icy trees, im sure they are always icy in the winter up north more.

And someone told me they dont work much in canada, im sure you guys work through the weather right?
