Is there any special type of drill bit needed to drill the bar, or a type that works better than others?
Any type of oil needed or works better to keep the bit cool?
Better to start with a smaller hole then drill the actual size you want?

Thanks

I use cobalt bits.

Everything I drill gets a 3/16 pilot hole.

Holes 1/2" and larger usually get stepped to the right size.

I use LPS cutting wax or tap magic oil

I had been thinking of drilling holes in my milling bar for a while. Finally took it to the local machine shop today and had them do it for $10. It was worth it they used a huge industrial drill press and a 5/16" end mill bit. I don't have a drill press so this was the way to go for me. The end mill cut through it like butter he barely used any oil. Just a thought!:msp_wink: I drilled and tapped the mill clamps myself, no problems.

Now I just need to order a spare chain so I can swamp em out quick in the bush. Its a pain trying to file the chain while its on the mill.

I have emailed a few machine shops but haven't heard back from any or they just tell me to use such and such, maybe I need to try to find a smaller outfit not a large machine shop.

If you wanna pay the shipping, pm me for my address up here in nebraska, I have access to a milling machine @ work, I'd be glad to drill/endmill some holes in it for you just for the karma value....just make sure you know where you want the holes and how big the holes need to be.......good luck
