Is it possible to post a picture? That would help with advise more, sounds like an easy drop to me but pictures would help where to aim it ,do you have wedges ?
! now this post makes more sense then the previous 19! ideas and opinions are one thing and actual facts at hand paints a different picture when seeing! "CONGRAT'S" to you sir!

Decided to drop it a very different direction. Perfect placement, but not without some drama. Initially the tree was going the wrong way due to high winds. Yikes!!!! We was running. Then the wind relaxed and it dropped perfectly. We did a fair bit of cleaning, so there was a good escape and then it went as planned. 40 inches diameter at the base, and about a cord of wood for 2 of us. There's about that much still there that needs to be dragged off the hillside. All in all a great day!!!! :)

Wow you guys had your work cut out for you. Glad everything worked out for yall

I have some concerns, that I'd like to hear some cautionary experiences.

Tree is close to 36" dia at the base, near the road, level ground, etc. Good!

But, it is in really moist soil. So moist that I was able push much smaller healthy trees over. In fact there are even larger trees that have fallen in years past, and the roots are huge. Soil encrusted roots span 10' in diameter or maybe larger. I'm on guard thinking that as the tree begins its fall that it will pull the roots out and possible create a dangerous situation. I plan to run like a little chicken from an axe wielding grandma on a Sunday afternoon.

I'm guessing there is 2+ cords of firewood, maybe even 3 cords. Only other question is the quality of the logs within. I guess I'll find out tomorrow morning.
!EAZZZZYYYY, PEEZY... notch it an cut away! let it drop where it may .

This area is full of diseased White Pines. I've been getting a lot of firewood from this exact area. Unfortunately the narrow canyon and the rough terrain only allows selected thinning because of my limited tools. Got neighbors though, and we all have a few things others don't, and together we get some impressive pieces out.

Very nice tree and should go more than a cord. Been a long time sicne I worked a pine...as in 64 years ago in N. Idaho. I forgot how nice it was to have a log that long with no branches

Took several days to get this stacked for seasoning. Way to heavy to lift, so I had to split most of it into quarters, using several wedges and the 10 pound sledge hammer. My entire being is sore. Another day to recharge, and a similar size Tamarack is next.
