Hmmmm.... this gives me some idears. Would be a great way to buck a firewood log on the ground, especially if it had some feet so you just set it down and rock it forward to cut! I’m gonna play with this idea some, see if I can’t come up with something.

The bow bars were designed for that application and much more compact easier to handle and transport device,

I know this is an old thread, but does anyone know if these are sold in the USA? I was thinking this type of saw would do great for firewood, and I have a regular saw to use for limbing...

The Druzhba is still manufactured and sold in Russia: http://www.kommashpro.ru/benzopily/zid-druzhba-4m-elektron

And Husqvarna makes a similar albeit far more refined contraption based on the 365: https://www.husqvarna.com/ru/produktsiya/benzopily/365h/965077918/

But if you stihl prefer good old Soviet technology: http://www.kommashpro.ru/benzopily/zid-ural-2t-elektron

Technically speaking these saws cannot be sold in Western Europe, the US, Australia etc due to lack of chainbrake, lack of emission control equipment etc but you can get one through unofficial channels.
Here it would be just a matter of asking some chap or gal from Ukraine or Belarus, haggle a bit, hand said gentleman or lady a wand of cash and you would have it delivered to your door.
In the US it may be more complicated and far more expensive.

You can order them through Alibaba now but shipping is insanely expensive.

Shipping would be the last of my concerns with those things, for the simple reason people in Eastern Europe seem to have a supernatural ability to find "unofficial" shipping channels. It must be an inheritance of Soviet times, when the whole economy there worked through said unofficial channels.
Throw it in the back of a lorry bringing turbine blades or high grade steel pipes from Ukraine or, if somebody along the way has a relative working for a cargo airline, in the hold of an Antonov and the saw will be here in under a week, usually delivered by somebody you have never seen in a brand new Mercedes van on Ukrainian or Russian registration plates.
