So I appreciated the wide spectrum of opinions on "switching to Husky climbing saw" I'm going to stick with the Stihl200 for now until I see/hear more about the new Husky's. My question now is what kind of mods can I make to my 200 to make her scream a little more? I like my lighter bar, better filter, but what else can I do? If you can attach any pics or illys that would be great. Thanks for the help guys.

If you look at the muffler theres a Torx screw in it. Take it out and then slide what it was holding in, out. That is the spark screen. In this saw it causes quite a damper in the flow. It will make the saw louder, but give more Torque and some extra chain speed. If you also want you can poke a 1/4"-3/8" hole towards the rear of the muffler with a drll bit. The turn the screw thats marked H on the carb all the way to the left. This will richen up the fuel to compensate for the extra air flow.

Thats it! These saws dont mod well as they are pretty much maxed out from the factory. Good luck and search MS200T MODS you'll get pages upon pages of info. This has been covered TONS in the past few years.

Hah....tell that to Craig Jabs. He has two 200T's, modded by Ed Heard. I think they are at least 30% faster than stock. I recall videos and timed cuts that may have shown 50% more speed! But they run hot, and at that high rpm, I question the durability. Haven't seen Craig around much of late, would like to hear how they are holding up.

True but how do those compare to a muffler modded 200T? I have heard of getting almost 20% just from this! These saws run 15,000-15,500 STOCK, so how much more does Ed get out of them?

I emailed Craig this AM and here is his reply

John,

Good to hear from you. They are holding up just fine, I have around 10-15 modded saws and all are running great! Send yours off to Ed John!

Best regards,

Craig Jabs

Ed can get quite a lot from a 200T. Problem is HEAT!!!

The 200T is a little lacking on cooling when compression is bumped up!

No load RPM is not necessarily increased on a modded saw.............higher RPM in the cut due to a change in the torque curve and more torque from mods is the result.

I believe Lakeside will back me on this but the RPM setting for a stock 200T is 14'000 RPM!!!

I do stand corrected I was mistakeen last night. The max rpm is only 14,000.

Ed is Ed Heard a builder who was banned from here a long time ago. He has his own forum now. Do a google search for his name.
