Echo CS-400 runs hot and smokes ?

I just bought a cs400 chainsaw for $50. I cleaned it up and it runs but it runs hot and smokes. The exhaust muffler looks like it has been scorched / burnt.
Looking for any help i can.
The serial # is 10013003449 and says Kioritz Corp.
What year was this built?
I am trying to find a new exhaust muffler.
Some posts mention carbon build up. I will take the exhaust muffler off this weekend and see.

I would like to locater a service manual if it is available.

Remove the catalytic converter from the muffler (it's not easy), remove the carb limiters and get correct carb adjustment. You'll see a thirty percent increase in cutting times and see a HUGE drop in muffler and cylinder operating temperature. I was stunned by the improvement when I did that.
