Echo cs-530 tapered worm drive???

Rebuilding this echo. Cool saw, but very different! Have you done one of these? Is it possible to put the steel worm drive on backwards? I may have done so, but don’t want to tear it down again unnecessarily! The cs520 and possibly the 510 have the same setup

Bought mine new in 2009, still in use today. A few rim drives, bar, plugs, and an air filter. Never needed to tear it down further. It has been an exceptional, dependable saw.
 
Each time I've installed the metal worm drive, heat has allowed it to slip on with only gentle persuasion. Maybe "pounding" was too much.
 
The trick here is to cool down the crank shaft and heat up the gear at the same time when installing a new gear. When ready, remove both and slide the gear on the crank at the correct depth/stopping point using oven mit or welding glove. I have used 250* or more on the gear in the past. Gotta be fast cuz things will start to normalize in a hurry!

To cool the crank, I use a large styrofoam cup with hole in the bottom slightly smaller than the crank diameter where the gear sits. Slip it on then fill the cup with ice up to the top. This will take some time to shrink the crank down a few thousands. Or you could try some electronics freeze spray to speed up the process. I have not tried that method yet but may in the future....
