no they are not close to the 346, they are right there and could be a little ahead, I never put that bigger carb on because Crofter wanted that saw to cut wood and not have the plastic cut up putting the bigger carb in but i did bore the stock carb out and the air filter real hurts the 260, i was not happy with that saw even though everyone said it cut good ,it just sounded like a sewing machine to me, tons of rpm's but a little slow on getting up there but know it screams fast and sounds like it has some balls now, one thing is the bigger the wood the better it runs , in 16 or 17 inch aspen or basswood it cuts real good compared to the other saws, I know cut some hard wood but not my chain on it so i am not going to take a chance on ruining it

If that 260 starts to make the 372 ehp nervous, can I send the 372 back to have it pumped up a bit more Ed? Will be checking the mail often!

Frank

to be honest Frank , if the 260 is starting to get close to your 372 , turn the chain back around on the 372 cause you got in on backwards, Frank you can call the 260 a saw now instead of just a weed eater, you will be able to tell me more on if it is faster when you run it with the other one you got, my guessing is when the first one gets about half way threw the block this one will be done

but Crofter if you want send the 372 back and i will pump it up somemore , i would not do anymore porting in the motor but compression and carb will gain somemore

My sons 260 and mine were very closely matched before, with the same muffler openings. They will be going at it again now for sure and we will get some times with the same bar and chain on them both. Not the same chain thats on it; I knew Gyppo would be all over it like stink on a fish, so for sure he didn't get the latest technology!

Frank

Anyone have a idea what a set of cases and a rear handle/tank assembly would cost me?
BTW Crofter, let us know how it runs against your sons stocker asap. If I buy this 026 I have been eyeing I will be getting it built for sure.

Crofter , donot worry Gypo is already beyond us in chain grinding so he never even looked at your chain he is that good, he thinks he is right up there with Tommy now so look out an now is a saw builder , BS HOTSAWS by gypo , how do they work , not sure yet never seen one go because he has been hiding them on me so i donot find out his secrets, but i hear he has some help from out west like Dennis G showing him the ways around a saw

This one has the good, fully adjustable carb on it.

The two we have also have the fully adjustable carb. It may be a few weeks befor we get together. I plan to run a stock round chisel on both then my chain on both. We have times on the improvement with the muffler mods only so we should be able to have good simulation of times from dead stock with factory round chisel all the way to what you could expect with an EHP ported saw and a loop of Crofters electric barbwire chain!

Hi Crofter, here's a video of the 346KD and my chain. Not sure, but I think you had the three ft. log below the one I was cutting on, so it may have been an inch or two smaller in circ.
Anyway, I copied your chain in my mind even though Ed tried to hide it from me, and now were loggin'.
John

donot worry Crofter , that was not your chain he saw , we have a 14 year old girl that works at the chainsaw shop and she filed it backwards so if gypo copied it , he is in big trouble

Frank, When I get home in September maybe I will get out your way and we can run yours against my greffard 260. Your around the Soo arent you?

Ben, I am hour and a half East of the Sault. You probably cross into the States at the Sault. It would be fun if we could get together. I may be working away on construction then, but keep in touch as the time comes closer.

The stock 260 with (muffler mod only) cutabout 33% slower than my 260 that Ed worked over. We used same chain and bar and both saws had air filter removed. The chain I used really was set up better for the 372 so might have held back the 260 EHP.

stock 260 2.06 sec

260 EHP 1.55 sec

372 EHP 1.06 sec

066 Sthl 1.06 sec all with same crofters chain,

The 066 could have used a 9 or 10 tooth sprocket and reduced its times. It had only muffler mods. With a square filed .325 and a 9 pin, it cut just under a second.

The wood was poplar, just under 9 inches. A new 260 saw with stock muffler and factory round groud chain would have given cut times around 4.25 seconds for comparison. With a brand new bar, maybe even longer. They take some wearing in to get any speed too.

Fresh filed round ground chain was 1.0 second slower on the small saws but only held back the 66 /372 about .5 second on that size wood. Of course that translates into a 50% or so handicap if you dont have some kind of a race chain.

Cut times in the cool of the morning are very noticably quicker than in the heat of the afternoon.

In short, there are lots of variables in trying to compare one saw or chain or operator with another. The further you go, the harder you have to fight for each incremental gain

Crofter just for a joke put a chain on that 260 that will let it rpm and try thast cause it has to scream to make power

u fellas after that exstra half second, not really my thing ,as ijust need a good cutting saw... however your work eventually translates into making working saws ,work better.. so i commend u efforts..

Tony these are work saws not ******** , Crofter told me that he has been cutting firewood with it plus we ran the hell out of it and the bigger the wood the better it cut
