Ever run a chipper in the dark?

Seems half of our emergency jobs are at night.. (realistically not that high a percentage though as many may call at night over years.. but most work can usually wait until daylight).

But yes.. most on here who have been doing this for some time would have run chipper at night.

The new lights (some pretty bright LED headlights) work well..

Its definately going to come up eventually. All the big companies either have or rent lighting and generators and they love to charge to bring them out.
Sometimes the lights throw you off so a personal headlamp or to use natural light is good. I had a Nightrider which in its time was one of the best. The battery was heavy but we used to blast down bike trails with them. Now they have LED but it throws a lot of shadow which sucks. I have a LED shop light and compared to flourescent it sucks for trying to look into a vehicle's workings. I have to say I think they throw a dark light. A string of regular construction lights is cheap but if you don't have enough it makes it worse.
I had just come from the eye hospital and couldn't see cause I scratched my cornia so everytime my eye moved it hurt. I went to the shop and did a clutch job on a 2 wheel drive pickup with my eyes closed. I didn't need to see to do that but running a chipper is not the same. Like was said though you don't need a lot of light in the real dark, you just have to take your time to let your eyes work. You just have to look a little longer.

Run a chipper in the dark? What else are you gonna do when your the only co that answers the midnight storm call for a local muni? Did one for the city of Walworth Wiscon once where a ridiculously large Silver Maple fell across the street on 3 cars. Fire truck crew thought they were helping with the floods. Had to ask them to turn em off. Blinded us too much. The cherry n berry strobes were enuff, and we got to pretend we were at the disco:laugh: We werent chippin that one tho, clam truck all the way baby!!!

Probably can't see all the crap behind what you see in the top drawer. Now this drawer is cool cause you can play the wrenches like a xylaphone and it sounds real cool.

Gonna need one of these

The box weighs a ton empty, loaded its around 8k so I don't know if I wanna haul it up there but everything has its price.

You can just sit under that F600 and do the job without lifting the truck or anything. I have a trans jack I used to use for those automatic ambulances and medium duty trucks, should be a piece of cake. No real ballbreaker whatsoever.

If you got a price to do the clutch ask them how many hours the labor guide said and that will kinda tell you how involved it is. I am going to say around 6 but they might give more.

Hmmmm..... I've never taken the transmission out to do a brake job....

Yea as a matter of fact I enjoy working at night in the summer , its alot cooler and much less traffic , we do office building and strip mall work at night here at least 10xs a year , about 2 weeks ago I chipped 300 xmas trees at night I have pics but can't figure out how to upload them from my phone ..

I don't like it any more. I have a buddy who keeps helmet lights on his trucks, so the crew can finish cleanup in the dark.

In November I was still in a tree after dark wrapping up a storm job, had to have the pick-up turned around and used the headlights as floods.
