I have used salmon wheels and nothing else for long enough to forget why I didnt like the others. Recently bought a gray to try, but havent used it yet. Whats your favorite?
I'm ashamed to admit it but I have the same grind on the grinder as when my friend set it up a good while ago. I'm wondering if anyone that felt like it could give me the length of the top plate flat on their dressed wheel? On what grinder? Mine is 3/8'' and RS2 . Its pretty much a corner to corner grind and the wheel just touches the drive link. I cut soft wood with occ. pitchy hard knot. My chains seem to cut like crazy,BUT ArboristSite has got me thinking. Any tips or suggestions from other grinders (or filers)?
Are the blue wheels worth the extra$?

John, only the top 35 thou or so should be cutting except in binding conditions or fuzzy wood. I did get one tri shaped file that had a much smaller faace for the side cutter. Of course I blend the side cutter faace in to the gullet everytime. What you aare doing where you file and go back to cutting might be a different story so your question is valid. You are working with it; I am playing with it!

Steve, I,ve got a blue wheel on now. Along with a new set of multi-points it sure is a nice grinding stone. It is even quietier and less grating on the ears. A tooth is visibly smoother looking, but tobe truthfull I cant tell a difference in the cut.

IMO the blue stones most defiantly finish better, their for should be some what faster. smother should be faster buy how much not sure. I do know pro sharp and blue stone sure make pretty chains.
