now thismay sound dum ,,wont be my first.. but have these bar companies ever tried an adjustable bar.with saya 16 to 24 range..mabe more. it seems with what can be done these days ,,it wouldnt be too hard to figure how to make one that would work..
oh well somebody will make a million on the idea.. but yall remember it came from me originally. an i wants some money out the deal.:)

I like it! Good idea Tony. The saw maker could do away with the adjusting screws and all the holes in the case for it. That would make the saw stronger and cost less for machine work. Any chain that you had with the correct gage and pitch would fit because you just extend the bar to fit. When the chain stretches you still have plenty of adjustment because you just extend the bar. Are you reading this Dan the Cannon bar man? Some engineering work to be done for sure but hey it all starts with an idea. Maybe you can make enough money to fix your back Tony. Mike

There's no doubt in my mind it could be manufactured BUT it would decrease bar sales/profits.I reason most corporate think tanks have shelved the thought as a bad idea for this reason.

I've got a couple ideas, but I don't think it would be very practical. The tip and heel would still have to be pretty much configured like what's being used now, so all the adjustment would have to be located in the body of the bar. Either the [screw] fasteners used to maintain adjustment would have to have both relatively unlimited strength and thinness, and/or the bar would certainly suffer from lack of rigidity in the vertical and lateral planes. Then there's the problem of what to do about the terminations of the outer laminations along the rail if this thing slides in and out.

About the surest method would be to use rivets and replaceable varying-length inserts. Not what I'd call either practical or field-friendly.

Other than that, it's a hell of an idea, Tony!

somebody just sent me an email of a similar idea that would be easy .. i wont post it..as he just expanded my idea ..
