Anyone add power to your truck? What programmers/intakes/injectors/etc would give me more towing power without going broke and without tearing up something expensive. Truck is a 99, 6 speed manual, 4.88 gears.

4 inch stright pipe all the way out, diablo sport chips programer, change valves and springs in transmission, probably less than 1,000

close friend has 02 f550.he uses a bully dog in his truck.he tows a 16,000 load (horsetrailer) about 5-8000 miles a year.

If you use any type of progammer or chip, spend the extra money and add a pyrometer and trans temp gauge so you can mointor what truck is doing.

Thanks. I'm still on the fence about adding power. I have paid dearly for the mods I did to my dodge. Its a brute, but an expensive one.

I'm thinking hard about adding an aftermarket intake and a free flow muffler to the ford, and I think I have a leak in the manifold or "up" pipe somewhere. That needs to be fixed. I read that you don't want to tow heavy with any more than a 25 hp program, so I might add a php gryphon programmer to it with that tune and a couple others. The programmer would give me the egt and boost gauges.

More power would be nice, but I don't want to have to start replacing lots of other driveline parts that break, like I did with the dodge. Gonna keep it pretty mild.

I have the same truck. I added an Air-Raid intake. The reason I did that was it was used and cheap off e-bay. I also added a 4" exhaust. I bought that off ebay also. They are pretty cheap(around $300). These 2 mods added some power. More then that they added 1 1/2-2mpg. I haven't added a controller yet. I tow pretty heavy 15-18k pound pretty often. I want to get a boost gauge and a pyro before I add the programmer. But your right the trucks need more power. But they handle the weight really well.

diablo chip

I have a Diablosport programmer for 99.5-2003 ford trucks with 7.3l.

I want to change to a DP Tuner. So, if you would like the tuner-I'll sell it for $250.

It has 40,60, 85, and 100hp tunes. I have original box and instructions because I bought it new. I have had it in my 01 F350 w/o any problems. You can change shift firmness with it too.

PM me or call 515-669-6044

I appreciate the offer. I think I'd break a lot of parts with that much power. Even the 40 hp would be too much to tow heavy without other mods like a clutch and intake and all. Thank you though.

I had a 01 7.3 ford. Motor is bullet proff, but they dont put out near the power that the newer ones do. I put the edge juice attitude on mine and i really liked it. Its cost more than most programmers, but it has the turbo psi gauge, and egt together. Also if the egts got to high it would back the fuel down to compensate. I also liked that you could change the setting going down the road. Flip it up to level 5 and that thing would scream, Even with 36s. I embarrased a few kids in there cavaliers and civics. Id say your truck being the 6 speed that youd be alright. I used to pull a 963 behind mine and it was a auto, and it was a BIG strain on it too, But it was what i had to make do with at the time.
