Well there might be no shortage of racism, but Chinese-made being synonymous with junk didn't occur in a vacuum with the lights off.

Just like you hear on the streets: oh German engineering... I'd never buy that part. j/k

Or japanese quality control... terrible right? -said no one ever.

I remember when almost all cars seen on American roads were American built, well built. As was almost all machinery.

And yes Japanese cars/products were ridiculed. "Made in Japan" was treated like "Made in China" is now.

High end european cars were respected and there was a smattering of volkswagens in the mix.

American workers and industry have been sold out by politicians and greedy business upper management.

Political marketing aside, that's just capitalism in a global economy. When you crush unions and ship jobs overseas to make the stock market sing, the economy turns into a house of cards and is going to get more and more volatile.

I think you are mistaken on the difference between quality assurance and quality control. Arguably, in industry a product can have terrible quality assurance but built with extremely high quality control. Meaning yeah its a POS but every single one of them is exactly the same POS with the exact same issues.

Japanese industry is known for its fastidiousness to following the book no matter what.

Kinda like McDonald french fries. They're terrible in comparison to real french fries from a top end steak house, they vary very little from town to town state to state. Low quality assurance high quality control.

Whereas the french fries in a top end steak house may vary quite drastically but may taste good no matter that the chef used a different seasoning this week. High quality assurance, low quality control.

Unions have zero leverage to prevent the companies shipping jobs overseas. What would you have suggested they do? Organize a strike? Negotiated lower wages and benefits, whats the floor? Till Americans are proud to make Chinese wages?

Under capitalism there is zero requirement or priority to "watch out" for the domestic working class, in fact the opposite is true. The only responsibility of the company is providing shareholder profit. Companies may not attract talent if they don't care for their workers, however if the nation wide trend is a race to the bottom, then the loser is and will always be the working class.
